Re: Clipping problem
Up in the menu bar toward the left there should be two sliders. The first one is playback volume (speaker) and the second is input volume (little microphone). Does changing the Input Volume change the recording enough to avoid clipping? A note. Did you know you can click once inside Audacity's red r...

Re: "Error Opening File"
I'm trying to figure out a direction to go with this. I think it's a Leopard problem myself. Vista/Leopard caused all sorts of weird and wacky problems that nobody had ever had before. And they're so new, nobody has any experience on either one or enough hands-on to generate the work-arounds. Couple...

Re: Adding vinyl crackles 'n pops
<<<If there is any plug-in to do this?>>> Yes. If there is. Don't download it if you can't find one. You gotta do the legwork. I think most VST plugins and some Nyquist work. You might also need the "VST Bridge" software, but that might be a Mac thing. Here it is: http://audacityteam.org/h...

Re: Persistent problem. Please help.
Vista did open up whole vistas of software changes and unforseen tool surprises. If the Audacity help pages didn't help or the help didn't work, then you may need a third party capture software package. I use Total Recorder. I have no idea if it will run on Vista. I bought the Pro version and I've b...

Re: Adding vinyl crackles 'n pops
Yes. Most people want to remove noise, but a subset of production folks need to go the other way. One of the most popular technologies on the video web sites is how to make crystal clear video look like old film. I don't remember anything like that coming with a normal install of Audacity, but could...

Re: Clipping problem
<<<What adjustment and where do I need to make to reduce the incoming volume?>>> We need to know just a bit more. WinXP running on what kind of machine? Deskside? Laptop? What kind of turntable? Older? Bought New? Model numbers? People are selling turntables now that are very different from the olde...

<<<(I have mine across the whole width of the Audacity window).>>>
I never knew it did that. Then I figured out why.
If you try that on an Intel Mac, you get an adorable little mushroom cloud and Audacity self-destructs. I wonder what happens on the other platforms.

<<<Helps to avoid divide by zero problems and the like.>>>
I never divide by zero. Professional policy.
OK, so go up. A show peaking at around -6 or so should survive a 20dB boost as long as you bring it back down in a succeeding filter, right?

Re: multi-track recording produces clipping?
Can you plug the system into the Line-In instead of the Mic-In? The first, undistorted performance is broken. All the ones after that are working normally. The audio signals out of your music amplifier are in all probability around Line level. This is roughly 1000 times hotter than what the micropho...

Re: Import DAT files to Audacity?
<<<transfer the analogue output from the DAT player into Audacity via the Line In on your soundcard.>>> And you would be shocked the number of DAT transfers that are done that way. What is intended to happen is you put the DAT machine into a digital video facility machine room along with the D1, D5,...
