Re: audacity won't start up

Too advanced. I'm starting with a too-large blank hard drive and various startup CDs most of which are inappropriate. When I got it, I had to leave the System Drive behind because the valuable data belonged to somebody else. The up side is that I know the machine is in good condition and used to wor...

Re: Determining Record Levels

<<<about making good recordings louder without harming sound quality?>>> You don't. If you have satisfied the basic requirement of the show being as loud as possible without clipping or pushing the show to "zero" (Normalize can be helpful here) then everything else you do creates damage. Y...

Re: Cut, copy, save etc. not available

Now you know why Apple insisted on Boot Camp for a while. I bet this doesn't happen when you have either operating system running by itself. Audacity doesn't like "magic" or shared devices and services.

<<<I want to use a fade in, or fade out that follows a convex curve>>> I once complained that the gray value modification tools in Corel Draw were extremely painful to use. You had to move each and every graphical control point and try to make them look good--all manually. I went on at some length h...

Re: Newbie Questions!

<<<how can I edit or create my own audio track by drawing waveforms?>>> That is how. This is why people buy synths and keyboards. This is the same shock people get when they find out that to animate a movie, you have to draw every single frame, 24 of them per second of movie, for a 90 minute show. <...

You got dangerously close to telling us what the microphone is and how it's connected.
