Re: What's the easiest way to record a phone conversation?
By far the easiest way to record both sides of the conversation on a phone call is to use a speakerphone in a quiet room. Place a production microphone next to the speakerphone device and jocky volumes and positioning until both sides, local and far, sound OK. I think my desk telephone--with speaker...

Re: signal inverting
<<<it won't work.>>> Pretty much correct. The speaker sound has to take the room into account because the speaker sound also bounces from chairs and tables in the room. The sound that reaches your ears is not the same sound that left the speakers. You can sometimes help howling or feedback in a thea...

Re: use audacity to record two microphones
Audacity will only record (capture) from one "device." The sound card counts as one device, so if you plugged your microphone into the Mic-In and plugged the theatrical microphone into an external microphone amplifier and then on to the Line-In of the sound card, you can record a mix of th...

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?
<<<For many of us, USB devices (particularly external USB soundcards - but not the bargain-basement variants) do work extremely well>>> Right then. And this is the cue for everybody (the 80% of all users) who managed to get it to work to show up with parts numbers and recommendations for their favor...

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?
<<<There will only be that uncompressed audio file. >>> There is no file. All the USB device is going to do is provide a streaming audio bitstream that you then need some capture program to, well, capture. After the capture program has accumulated all the audio data in its data wicker basket (to tor...

Re: Selecting Playback Location
If you single click anywhere inside the blue waveforms, the active marker will move to that point and from that time on, the cursor and playback will begin from that point. Each time you press the spacebar, the playback will start over at the new point. DoubleSpace to halt playback and start at the ...

Re: Wave apparent, but no playback
<<<i made a successful audacity project file>>> You did a lot more than that. You saved an Audacity Project which is a whole pile of files and folders. Audacity gets its editing efficiency and speed by not creating one sound file, but by assembling your show on the fly as you play the timeline and e...

Re: Feedback/distortion in audio: How to remove?
This is where you're supposed to say, "I found a free upload site called "mmmmmmmm.com" and I put a clip up there for you." No, huh? My web host is supposed to offer this, but it's never worked particularly well and since they moved to the New! and Improved! servers, it doesn't w...
