Re: Audacity version 1.2.5 crashes when recording 24 bits.

That's correct. However, if you're using an iMic, trust me, the noise floor is not 76 dB with a 20 dB headroom. I put an iMic out in the garage because its noise and distortion were clearly audible in the show. I have two pro-sumer sound mixers and neither one will meet that specification when using...

Re: Exporting aup. to wav. problems

That's what Audacity does when it encounters a compressed file and it can't really figure out how to manage it. It usually does that on import, tho. You have an odd duck, there. Search the forum for conversion programs. You'll need to get the sound file closer to one of the Audacity formats to bring...

Re: Audacity version 1.2.5 crashes when recording 24 bits.

<<<VAudacity version 1.2.5 crashes.>>> Yes, it does. Old news. Try downloading Audacity version 1.3.x. Alternately, I've been able to record live vocal performances for a theatrical short film using a nice sound mixer and 48000 / 16 bits. What are you doing that needs 24 bit? Koz

Re: Exporting aup. to wav. problems

Before I dig through this, where did the howl come from? 11026 is a most unusual sample rate for doing production.

Re: attempted phone recording - ultra-faint signal

<<<Is this something an inexpensive mixer would address (i.e. amplify the signal strength?>>> Messin' with phone lines can be interesting. If you happen to be holding that red-green pair of wires when it rings, it will give you a shock. Ringing current is strong enough to physically move the bell cl...

Re: Will Audacity work on a stand-alone digital file?

<<<Is that the way it works?>>> A brief trip back to the top of the thread tells me you have WinXP like most of the rest of the land of computing. Except me. I'm running Win2K. I'd be diving into Computer Properties > Hardware and making sure that the USB services have my device listed and that ther...

There are certainly people who have made bad selections or who have dirty connections or some other correctable problem. I have personally ...

[Audacity] > Preferences > Interface > Enable Meter Toolbar.

I don't remember where Preferences is on a PC. Edit?

Re: Clipping at 0.5

You are probably clipping or overloading the analog services long before the digital services get into trouble. What that looks like is the waves flatten, but you never get the digital overload indicators. Reduce the level of the sound you're applying to the computer. Especially if you're getting th...

Re: i cannot use the effects

The effects, or actually most of the tools only work when you have some audio selected. You can select everything, and that counts, too. Edit > Select > All.
