Re: Error Recording
Audacity doesn't always get along so well with USB sound devices. It hates the USB turntables, but it's not on good terms with other USB devices either. You bought an iMic, right? You can probably do a lot better with very much better stability and quality by carefully removing the iMic and put one ...

Re: sound level across multiple files
Is everybody ignoring the "Normalize" tool for a reason? Select one chapter in the book and apply the Effect > Normalize. It will push the loudest peak in the chapter to -3. Select the next chapter. Apply Normalize. Etc. You can't select the whole book. It has to be chapters. This filter h...

A few pieces more. The DJ mixer has a "HiFi" output which is Line Level. Most Macs have a Line-In connection--even the laptops, except for that new skinny one. It's the circle with the two black arrows pointing in. You should have one single cable between the two. If you have more than tha...

Re: De-essing filters
In thousands of years of buying and playing vinyl, I've only had one record that had bad peaking. The "Liza with a "Z" (not Lisa with an "S") album was recorded with killer high peaking. Dogs can't listen to this thing. Still with all that, it wasn't distorted, just very har...

I did the voice thing once for someone who already had the plane noise. http://www.kozco.com/lacontrol/lacontrol1b.wav It goes a long way to get really close to a microphone while you're talking. That gives you the highly compressed popped Ps and smashed sounding voice. Everything else is heavily fi...

Re: Maximum recording time specification
I know the Linux machines will actually do that. As long as there is anything running on their task list, they'll keep chugging along. The jury is out on the Macs. They're based on Linux, but they do have all that power saving stuff to contend with. I do leave my Mac to record HiDef television progr...

Re: Maximum recording time specification
Since this is a Windows machine, did it go to sleep? Shut down the hard drives? Stop everything and do a Virus Scan? Slide into Power Save mode? Halt and do a Microsoft Update?
Microsoft's version of "Multi-Tasking" is very different from everybody else's.

Make good friends with somebody over on the Linux forum. They can execute lame from the command line and write a simple script with replaceable parameters to blast through all your shows very quickly. You can do that in Mac land, too, because OS-X is based on linux, but nobody I know, save maybe one...

Re: LAME help.
Close. The MacBook has an Intel processor inside and should use Audacity 1.2.5. audacity-macosx-intel-1.2.5.dmg That's after you decompress it. This one may come down as a ZIP file and decompress to get all the operating files include that one. libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97.zip I personally create a...

Re: Audacity version 1.2.5 crashes when recording 24 bits.
<<<Either the 24 bits recording feature should be removed either the bug should be fixed.>>> Neither of which is likely to happen because the programmers are struggling to bring out Audacity 1.4.x. Can you write instruction books? They'd be really happy to hear from you. <<<Do you recommend to use t...
