Re: Exporting as MP3 creates reverb/echo in recording
OK. That's a good one. The lame libraries are there, Audacity can open and use them, but they don't seem to work right. Fascinating. Let's break the process in the middle and see which half fails. Download both of these sound clips, export them both as MP3, one at a time, and see what happens. http:...

Re: Can't change input and sound recorded is rubbish
You are probably recording from Window's output rather than one of the inputs. It may be called "What You Hear" on your machine or "Output Mix." Whatever it is, you can change it by beating up the Windows Control Panel. http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_I...

Re: High Pass Filter/Noise Gates
<<<My first goal is to get rid of the huge bottom end bass echo>>> Oh, I'd fix that one first. If you can't put a decent sound signal into your machine and get it back out again exactly like it went in, you probably have Windows Control Panels set wrong. This happens to everybody on Windows because ...

Re: Linux or Windows?
I use all three and nobody has ever gotten audio services to work right except Mac. Windows is getting better by peeling off the hundreds of different oddball and confusing sound options that can get you into trouble (see: Windows Audacity forum). As far as Linux goes, I once complained about an aud...

Re: filter gates
Don't confuse filtering and gating. Filtering is sensitive to frequencies or pitches of tones or music. Gating is sensitive to how loud things get. The tools only work after you select some audio. If you want hard frequency cutoffs, you can apply both the High-Pass and the Low-Pass filters and set t...

Re: No display in Audio Track ?
Next time you edit or create a song you like, don't bother Saving it. That just creates a complicated Audacity Project and lots of confusion. Instead Export As Wav... or Export As MP3... . Either of those will give you one single sound file that you can listen to anywhere or email to your mum. WAV i...

Re: Whistling noise while recording
They warn you to try and keep a plug-in sound card as far away from everything else as possible. The inside of a PC is a terrible place for sound equipment and most sound cards aren't shielded. So following that, if your sound services are built-in, you might move your other cards around and see if ...

Re: Elecrtic guitar line-in
Maybe not. Try getting it to work in Windows own audio program.
Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment
It could also be good to know which Windows.

Re: No display in Audio Track ?
<<<This worked earlier and I am sure I must have changed something. >>> This could be a little exotic. Did you try to move or change your AUP Project file? Did you mess with or move anything associated with the _DATA folder? The first two AU files inside the _DATA folder draw the waveforms on the sc...
