Re: Cassette to PC
Are you running out of hard drive space? Audacity will record until it runs out. One machine we have claims it will go 57 hours. Also pay attention to where Audacity is putting things. Preferences > Directories. That directory should be on a large fast hard drive. Audacity will also have problems if...

Re: Voice editing
<<<I had a go at voice editing and failed miserably>>> That's because technically, you're not editing. You're performing special effects. I started reading this wondering who was having troubles deleting words and moving sentences around. That's pretty straightforward stuff. We did a bit on vocorder...

Re: audacity records a crackle on the beat of songs
Is there a Windows Sound Recorder in Vista? The older one used to record for :30 without Audacity which was usually enough to tell more or less where the problem was.

Re: Cannot transfer from analog transcriber to computer
I haven't had to do this in a long time. Double click the little speaker icon in the lower right and the long Playback Panel should open. Somewhere on the upper left of that panel you should be able to get a drop-down where you select ... I can't remember ... Advanced, maybe? That should open up the...

Re: unequal recording volume
Since this is Windows, you need to worry about the playback and record devices. They're different and having one off with respect to the other will drive you nuts.

Re: Exporting as MP3 creates reverb/echo in recording
Another note. As the Linux users could tell you, lame is a stand-alone program and you can use it on the linux command line with nothing else running. >> lame piano2.wav piano2.mp3 -h That will produce my piano recital as a high-quality MP3 file 1/10 the size of the original WAV file. I'm looking fo...

Re: Exporting as MP3 creates reverb/echo in recording
<<<what frequencies the MP3 compression algorithm will truncate.>>> That's because it doesn't. MP3 maintains a wide bandwidth audio channel almost to the bitter end. That's what's so crazy about your problem. This isn't an MP3 problem. The common explanation of how MP3 works is that it suppresses or...

Re: Recording Levels 101
You can also get a much denser sounding vocal track by using the compressor. Don't confuse volume compression with digital compression. We're not trying to make small file sizes, we're trying to squeeze the volume variations out of your voice. Edit > Select > All. Effect > Compressor... Start with t...

Re: Advice and Questions about Podcast Setup
<<<I dont see a line input.>>> If you're on a PC, that's not unusual. There are ways to manage Line Level audio and reduce it to microphone level, but that only works for people who know how to use the stuff in the parts bins at Radio Shack and can solder. That also has the disadvantage of convertin...
