Re: Muddy Sound Quality from Ripped Cassettes
The sound card Microphone Input is mono. The Line Input is stereo. And this is why: http://www.kozco.com/tech/audioconnectors/audioconnectors.html But that would sound terrible, so that's probably not what's wrong. You know Audacity wakes up from First Birthday in Mono, right? Reset in Preferences. ...

Re: The audio's being recorded really strange.
Two problems. Since this is version 1.2 on Windows, the Audacity Preferences are handled by the Dreaded Windows Registry. What this means is there is no fool-proof way to "burn it off and start over." If you trash and re-install Audacity from stone cold zero, you will get the entirely eeri...

Re: Softening Music?
Technology is our friend. I posted an explanation last night just as the Audacity web site crashed. [email protected]#$%^ No. You can't. There has to be a unique key that lets the software figure out what's voice and what's everything else. In the case of Vocal Removal, the key is any sound in the exact middle of...

Re: Audacity crash procedure
Thanks for your posting, but you know you put it in the 1.2 forum, right? A lot of us don't have 1.3 software.

Re: Editing mp3 songs with Audacity
I wrote a little thing about how MP3 works. http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3414&p=13681&hilit=compression+violin#p13681 I think of MP3 as a delivery format, what you make right after you get done producing the show and want to listen to it in your iPod. The show itsel...

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
Sorry, that's the wrong version. You should download... libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97.zip ...and uncompress it into the file(s) that then Audacity should recognize. It helps when you get lost to tell MacOS to show you file extensions. Desktop > Finder > Preferences > Advanced If you don't know you d...

Re: Lamebib-carbon not found by computer after download
<<<is apparently not being read by my computer>>>
The computer is reading it but not Audacity. Audacity is looking for a file called LameLib which is what you get when you decompress the download file.

Re: Lotsa noise, unpredictable spot, USB turntable
<<<it doesn't seem like anyone is having the same problem as I am>>> Unreliable, unstable, unpredictable USB? Nobody here with that problem. Maybe, but y'all have the same solution. Stop using the USB services and go analog. http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2259&p=8840#p884...

Re: Record using Mic In on laptop
<<<Should I switch to a USB connection?>>> Not until we fix this. People have trouble with USB services. There has to be a level control somewhere. The Mic-In connection is useless without that. What happens if you reduce the volume at the input control in Audacity? Slider control in the middle of t...

Are you using a USB device to transfer your music? People have trouble with that.
