Re: Getting started

We've been complaining about what the users need to go through to get the lame encoder for a very long time. Maybe in the next version of the web page. But, yes, as you discovered, the script makes it much easier to compile the lame source code into the dynamic library file you already have. If you ...

Re: I open a file and get only a tiny bit of it

<<<Just a quick squeak.>>>

Not all compressed portable audio files are MP3. If they're not (Apple iPod AAC for one example), Audacity will play them very fast. It plays most sound file it doesn't understand very fast. The very highly compressed audio files do squeak, yes.

Re: .Flac file just "squeaks"; no playback

There is something damaged about this one. A squeak or very rapid playback is what Audacity does when it doesn't fully understand a sound file. Unless somebody corrects me, 1.2.x doesn't understand FLAC at all. There is a piece about FLAC support finally coming in one of the 1.3.x versions of Audaci...

Re: save as and save

<<<it is possible to avoid this issue by setting your Audacity preferences so that Audacity makes its own copy of the original sound clips and files>>>

I don't remember seeing that in 1.2.x. This could certainly mean I just haven't found it yet.

Re: Creating a ringtone...

Sorry. I'm falling asleep. Audacity couldn't find the "lame libraries" right? You need to install those separate from Audacity because of licensing restrictions. http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3 "lame" is not a description of the quality of the softwar...

Re: Creating a ringtone...

Many people make lots of money on Ring Tones and they don't want you working around them. Up until a short time ago, it was almost impossible to make your own ring tone because of the overlapping protections and code hooks. I asked the Systems Operators in the Big Office down the hall about a year a...

Re: Basic Sound Card for Mac 450 G-4

I think the G3 machines were the last ones to split between Mic-In and Line-In. Have you tried your own Line-In? <<<Mac 450 G4>>> Mirror Front? Which one if not? Unlike PCs, the Mac Line-In is pretty well shielded and the ones I've messed with work very well. I've done theatrical audio mastering wit...
