Re: Lexicon Alpha recording interface
<<<doesn't work with the windows sound recorder either>>> Are we fudging the "Requirements" section of the instructions? If you're on Vista and the device's system requirement document doesn't say Vista, you lose. Anything else like that will kill you. Processor speed, memory requirement, ...

Re: Distorted playback
<<<16/44.2 sounds a little thin>>> It would. 16 bit, 44100 is a CD delivery format and is an intentional compromise between sound quality and pushing one entire Beethoven symphony out the door on one physical shiny disk. Many people screamed that they could hear the difference when that audio was ac...

Re: Using Lame encoder - legality
I think I know, but let's see if anybody jumps in who knows for sure. I know there is a licensing issue if Audacity were to produce MP3 files. It doesn't. That's why you have to go looking for an Open Source MP3 generator like "lame" and attach it manually. MPEG1, Layer III (shortened to M...

Re: Disc space?? NEED INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a notice of amount of recording time left. Is that what you mean? That indirectly tells you how much room you have left on the drive that Audacity is using to store stuff. If you have only one hard drive, then that's the ball game. Most of our machines have two hard drives; one for Windows ...

Re: Audio Disappears
<<<because the waves are still there>>> The waves are created by Audacity in response to your show, but then they're saved in two files for use later. If you change an Audacity project without having Audacity open, then the waves can get out of step with the show. And the show itself can get damaged...

Re: Crash Recovery Confusion
You don't. There is no good way to get from a pile of AU files to a finished show without the AUP file. It's the AUP supervisory file that fails to get written during a crash. That's the only file that knows where everything is. You got off light. Most people post about having thousands of AU files ...

You can open just about anything in QuickTime Player and press Apple-I to open up the INFO panel.
You also should know that Apple AIFF and Windows WAV are so genetically close that they can't get married in most states. I wouldn't be shocked to find that Audacity will open AIFF files directly.

Re: Bizzz noise when playing WMV file in Audacity
Nobody understands Audacity Projects. Put your sound work into a form that Audacity can understand. Open it, select the portions you want to amplify and apply the amplify tool--or any other tool you wish. Fine tune as needed and then Export As WAV... or Export As MP3... . If you do all those steps, ...

Re: Distortions with very low level
There are problems with USB turntables and one of the symptoms is distorted sound. It's not really "straight" distorted as much as the USB data stream carrying the audio is falling apart. In the Mac forum, we tell people to use the Mac Line-In and the analog cables from the turntable. You ...
