Re: Recording from an Audio Tape
There is a pitch change tool under effects, but it's not perfect in 1.2.x. You probably want to fade the effect in and out to avoid sudden, odd pitch shifts and I don't think you can do that. Further, last time I used it, it actually changed the length of the selection slightly, which means if you d...

Re: How to Increase Dynamic Range
You may find that increasing the dynamic range of a show to be a mixed blessing. There are actual complaints on the video forums about having the sound track too good. If you listen to dialog at a comfortable level and somebody fires a gun--or in the case of CSI-Miami, blows up a boat in Biscayne Ha...

Re: Sudden and random loss of sound
Oh yes. It happens all the time. We assume you're working on an Audacity Project. Audacity projects stand on all the original capture clips and imported files whether or not you "Save A Project." If any of the original sound files are missing or misplaced, the show turns into a pile on the...

Re: center pan isolation
No shortage of people who want the singer without the orchestra. <<<then they mentioned bounce the track to get isolated or something weird. I have no idea what they are on about, and i cant remember where i saw it.>>> But you're reasonably sure it was right next to the woman who put her poodle in t...

Re: Audio disables after a minute of playback
<<<Siobhan>>> Gaelic, right? There is a Siobhan in HR at the other end of the building. You gave me a weenie there. You combined two problems that don't normally happen together. Sudden, unexplained gaps in a Project usually means you deleted or moved a separate sound clip by accident. You can't mov...

Re: Using Audacity to record Game Audio
Oh, and make sure they will work with the version of Windows or Mac that you have. I'm pretty sure my current licenses will not work with Vista or Leopard.
This is OK because I don't have either one.

Re: Using Audacity to record Game Audio
Recording a show on a PC or a Mac is always fraught with problems, so I use software for both. Total Recorder on the PC and WireTap on the Mac. If you pay for the license, they will both let you record shows while you're not there.

Re: Question regarding vocals(not removing)
I filled up a legal pad once with the calculations about how to do this, but I never actually got it to work.

Re: Removing everything but guitar
No. There is nothing different about the guitar sounds for the software to tell which sound is guitar and which which sounds are the other instruments. The Vocal Removal Tool can work because the singer is in the exact center of a stereo show. That's what is special about the singer compared to the ...

Re: Reducing the size of a .WAV file
Another common trick is to cut stereo loose and go with one channel mono sound. That will produce an MP3 half the size immediately. Oh, and audio compression software works best when you start with perfect audio, so don't try to "help out" by compressing the audio ahead of time or capturin...
