Re: opening existing sound file from Digital Performer
Try it on a short one. Audacity is more particular about the accuracy of the WAV file structure than iTunes, is, so I'm not bettin' the farm on success. If you import the same file multiple times, does it fail or break up in the same place every time? Better yet, Play one of the files in QuickTime a...

Re: "Negerpunk" is not a music genre!
This is one of the reasons that Audacity doesn't come with an MP3 encoder. Audacity can use the "lame" open source software MP3 encoder, but you don't have to use lame if you don't choose to. The default Audacity install comes with no MP3 software, but it does have a note suggesting that t...

Re: streaming records lossless in real time
<<<lossless streaming solutions? >>> I doubt you're going to find anybody that can support lossless anything. Streaming suggests that there will be holes and occasional interruptions in the performance and/or the streams will be compressed to allow many of them without it costing billions of dollars...

Re: How do you delete Recent File
<<<How do you delete Audacity Recent File>>> You mean delete the file listings you get when you select File > Recent Files? You don't. Yours is buried in the Dreaded Windows Registry. The Mac people can edit the Audacity Preference file in TextEdit or any text editor and I assume the Linux people ha...

Re: Oops! Need to split combined music and audio tracks
If the show is now in two-track mono (same thing on left and right) then you're dead. There are very advanced tools that can pull a vocal out of a music performance, but they all must start with a full stereo show. They need to be able to "find" a singer left to right. If there is no left ...

Re: The Play Button
Could Audacity be playing the music super fast and you just get a noise click instead of the performance? Audacity will become unstable if it doesn't understand what kind of sound file you are presenting. Do you have a WAV file or MP3 that you recorded with Audacity and you know works? Do those perf...

Re: Won't recognize USB mic?
<<<USB microphones are the only option.>>> No, that's not exactly true. I use an external mixer with my microphones and I connect to the Line-In of my Mac. Mixers are falling out of favor, but there is no other good way to set the sound levels during a performance in real time. Koz

Re: Tried troubleshooting. Any other ideas?
<<<would like to be able to use it in the safest and most streamlined manner possible. >>> Those two tend not to go together. I have a horror of losing original performance captures. If you do that too many times in Hollywood, you get to become a plumber in Schenectady. So, once again, right after a...

Re: Tried troubleshooting. Any other ideas?
<<<I think wherever I deleted, it killed the files and left some weird hybrid behind. Not usuable at all....I've managed to corrupt it enough, I can't get it back.>>> So I went back to the WAV file I exported right after the live capture step and kept right on going. No serious damage done, and no p...

Re: streaming records lossless in real time
You're crazy <<<in real time create flac or wave (lossless) files>>> Audacity creates its capture snippets in real time and then waits for you to tell it what to do with them; the choices being continue to capture, edit, or export to a stand-alone sound format. So right away, you're out of the real ...
