Re: Forum log in/connectivity problems
Twice today. I tried posting to Recording Techniques at 9:56 am Pacific and at 10:01 am it still hadn't completed loading, so I gave up. Then at 2:16 pm Pacific, it died again with: --The Connection has Timed Out-- --The server at audacityteam.org is taking too long to respond.-- Those are only the ...

<<<I like file extensions>>>
So do I. However Windows comes with them turned off in order to be as Mac-like as possible. Oddly enough, Mac OS-X realizing what a disaster that decision was, let's you see them as default now.

Re: Feedback elimination
You might be able to use the noise removal tool. Noise removal works by memorizing a segment of sound (the sample) and then trying to subtract that sound from the show. Normally, this is used with air conditioner noise or something like that. If you have a brief segment of howling before or after th...

Re: Waveform not symmetrical
There is one Audacity tool-based solution to this and it can be made to work perfectly. It's the sample point editor. Load an audio track into Audacity and keep magnifying it until you can see the little dots on the waveform. Those are the digital sample points and they can be moved around with the ...

Windows INFO Tool
What program do you launch that will tell you what kind of sound file you have? If you have Windows file extensions turned off and somebody hands you a file with an icon you've never seen before, what do you do? QuickTime INFO will go a long way here, but let's assume you want to stay in the Land of...

Re: Playback too fast!!
Traditionally, any music that plays really fast is a result of importing compressed sound files that Audacity doesn't know how to properly decode. They don't always break right away, but they do become unstable. Where did the files come from? Do you have windows set so you can see file extensions? I...

Re: recording album sides and dividing to separate tracks
I wonder if those music recognition programs would get killed by having the wrong number of seconds in each track. The cut length, of course, is completely dependent on where-when you pressed Apple-B.

<<<streaming over a local network >>> Still, we have a crusher network, and we still pull stuff over as files and play locally. If it's a busy network, there's going to be holes in the performance.
