Re: Plugins Installation
Sometimes, the standard Audacity install is a bit scrambled. I don't do it that way. I create an empty folder called Audacity and drag it into the /Applications folder. After you explode all the operating files from the Audacity download, drag them, folders and all, to /Applications/Audacity. If you...

Re: change to "db" on the ruler
Black down arrow on the left > Waveform (dB). It may also help if you made the work surfaces really tall by grabbing the bottom and pulling down. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/AudacityPanelFull.jpg That illustration also uses View > Float Meter Toolbar. We try to keep transactions on the forum so e...

Re: Audacity Keeps Crashing
Trash Mac Audacity Preferences /SystemDrive/Users/Me/Library/Preferences/audacity Preferences Windows Preferences are burned into the Registry. Abandon Hope Ye Who Enter... If it's still unstable, delete this preference file and reinstall Audacity from a fresh download. I personally create an empty ...

Re: Distortion / Screechy noise on my recordings
Hopefully, the Line-Out of your mixer to the Line-In of the Mac. The Mac has a perfectly good "Sound Card" built in, although it's only good for Line (high) Level. The icon is a little circle with two black arrows pointing in. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102974&a...

Re: Distortion / Screechy noise on my recordings
It's a combination of MacOS, Audacity, and USB Sound Services. It's not "broken" as much as it's unstable. Comes and goes--usually at the worst times. Is there any way to use the analog connections? Is there an analog out of your mixer/converter? Cable to the Line-In of the Mac and record ...

Re: create short pure tone files
Missed a step. Export As WAV... to get the output mono file. Wave has far less distortion than MP3.

Re: create short pure tone files
Set Audacity preferences for the audio standard you want (48000, 16 bit). Generate > tone > [Sine, 400, 0.5 amplitude (-6dB), 1 sec.]
OK.
Audacity does not easily generate stereo tones.

Re: Vertical zooming
Control-Click does it on the Mac (hold control down and click). I would have bet on ALT-Click, myself because a lot of programs reverse their tools with that key, but not this one.

Re: recording album sides and dividing to separate tracks
I personally execute live performances at 48000/16 (jury's out on 32000-floating) to get the highest possible quality that makes sense*. (*24-bit is unstable on Macs and anything higher is a complete waste of time and disk space.) Those Capture Masters are then the source for everything else--usuall...
