Re: high pitch noise when recording
The combination of Mac OS, USB, and Audacity is unstable. Once it goes, you're pretty much stuck with what ever you have. You can help a great deal by eliminating the USB portion. http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2259&p=8840#p8840 Once you get over the idea of transferring ...

Re: create chanting crowd from single or few voices
Not with the standard tools, no. I'd be looking for a multiplier or keyer...maybe Vocorder. The idea is to put pink noise in one end and control it with a human voice. If you balance that just right, it might sound like a couple of thousand people. Have you ever simulated a crowd by whispering close...

Re: Measuring overall intensity
I know how to cheat. Play the selections over a very good sound system in a dead quiet room. Measure the acoustic results with one of these: http://www.radioshack.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=sound%20level%20meter&origkw=sound%20level%20meter&sr=1 There are a stunning number of peopl...

Re: Individual Sample Position?
Let's see how well the peace and love works out when I tell you that you're doing it all wrong. Sound isn't measured in percent. That was the Audacity developer's wacky idea of how to make the program more user friendly. So convert the timeline to dB. Black down arrow on the left > Waveform (dB). No...

Re: Can't Burn WAV CD
Let me use a few more significant words. To burn a Data CD which will not play in your car, put a blank CD into your Mac and OK the opening dialog box. Drag your WAV sound files over to it after it mounts on the desktop and drag the disk icon to the burn icon in the dock. To make a Music CD which wi...

Re: Forum log in/connectivity problems
This morning at 1:34am Pacific (I'm on Maui, so it's only 10:30p here) I saw somebody on line I could help. I tried to log in and gave up when it hadn't connected some 2-1/2 minutes later. This time I'm not calling from LA. I'm calling from MauiNet or Maui Road Runner or whatever service my host has...

Re: Warning: there is very little free disc space
I perceive (pressing fingers to forehead) that you are about to fall into the Save Projects trap. You can't move, backup, or transfer Audacity projects and they are very easily damaged by accident for anybody who tries. People will argue with me that you can too move them. Perfectly true, however it...

Re: Very unexpected waveforms with Realtek/Creative SB
If you have a test record designed to tell you information about the audio system, then you should be able to tell which piece of equipment is at fault. You can then complain to the manufacturer.

Re: Very unexpected waveforms with Realtek/Creative SB
Human voices are not even. Some announcers make the blue waveforms that go up more than down. Some announcers go more down. There are standards for the construction of a microphone so that the same blue waveform is produced no matter who made the microphone. Positive air pressure on the microphone w...
