Re: Sounds good everywhere but PC speakers
Does it sound normal to you? It does, but this microphone and preamp combination has a habit of including very low pitch errors, rumble, and thunder. Most speakers and headphones won't care, but the tiny speakers in a laptop may go nuts. Try the equalizer step from Audiobook Mastering. It's designe...

Re: Hi and Low Pass Filters to reach ACX -60dB level
-60dB level A note about that. -60dB is the ACX limit. The goal is at least -65dB (quieter). That allows you to make mistakes and have variation in your performances without violations. Similarly, Audacity Audiobook Mastering doesn't shoot for -3dB Peak Limit. It shoots for -3.5dB goal to allow for...

Re: 2ND TEST CLIP FOR AUDACITY
Just note that when you do read, the quality has to be reliable and consistent through a whole book. You do not want ACX rejecting only some chapters here and there. That's a nightmare because you not only have to solve the problem they found, but you can't affect the chapter-to-chapter tone, qualit...

Re: Hi and Low Pass Filters to reach ACX -60dB level
You have killer rumble/thunder sound in the posting. As Steve, above, the noise responds well to the ACX mastering tools. Instead of posting pieces of work, post an actual voice test. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/TestClip/Record_A_Clip.html Read down the blue links. They're very short and eve...

Re: Low level on microphone through usb interface
The monitor level is fine but the recorded level is terrible. Let me read that back to you. The monitor level on the Akai Reel To Reel is fine, but the recording in Audacity is terrible. I bet the reel to reel doesn't go fully into E/E (electronic to electronic) until you either "arm it" ...

Re: Having some trouble applying compression and normalization
You can avoid the sync adjustments and setup if you're willing to do post-production editing later—push the out-of-time voice track in sync with the backing track with the Time Shift Tool (two sideways back arrows). This can work OK if you're only singing one track over the music. This is less conve...

Re: Having some trouble applying compression and normalization
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/tutorial_recording_multi_track_overdubs.html Audacity doesn't automatically record your voice in sync (in time) with the backing track (the instruments). That's computer specific and has to be adjusted. There is a setting that prevents the backing track from recor...

Re: Can't find .wav I exported
I guess WAV files are just for Windows? No, they're not. Audacity uses WAV as the default uncompressed file format because they're managed correctly and open in all three computer platforms. So you still have something seriously wrong. You are urged strongly to sort this out before your Audacity st...

Re: 2ND TEST CLIP FOR AUDACITY
emphasize "SS"s from childhood training in speech classes. This is a little more serious than that. This is the ice-pick in the ear sound you get when an already crisp microphone meets somebody with sharp delivery meets heavy corrective processing. I applied the DeEsser tool to your post ...

Re: mp3 timing off with original movie
Even if I import the mp4 into audacity, edit/change nothing in the track and export it, when it it is imported the track is off and out of sync.... This part of the post suggests it goes wrong even without the MP3 step in the middle, but still. MP3 is terrible format to use in production. MP3's ful...
