Re: Audacity 1.2.6 Mac OSX
I should have said, "Let us know how that works." ========================= That immediately solved the problem and a host of others. Thanks so much!!! Out of curiosity what caused the DC bias to be there in the first place. Is it that I am working with old reel to reel tape? =============...

Re: Noise Removal problem
Everybody goes into this with the natural assumption that you can rescue any sound presentation from any damage. You can't. Especially if you tried the 1.3 noise tools--which are very good--and they weren't enough, you're pretty much dead. Cassette tape noise is wide and flat--hiss with a broad char...

<<<My question is: is there any way I can get Audacity to tell me exactly what format the file is in? >>>
Does the file play in QuickTime without you messing with it? While it's playing, press Apple-I which will open up the INFO panel and tell you everything it knows.

Re: dead air
You can edit them together. Open the first one in a fresh Audacity and then cut and paste each song onto the same timeline one after the other. Export as one WAV or MP3 file--not Save. What program are you using to produce your slide show? If it's a CD authoring program, they almost always insist on...
Re: Trimming
First, I would not have posted at the bottom of somebody else's post. It greatly restricts the number of people that will see your question. I found you by accident. Sudden Unexplained OS-X insanity can be caused by your hard drive filling up. How big is your hard drive and how much stuff do you hav...

Re: How do you move the cursor in playback mode?
Just to make sure we're not too close to the problem, all other programs seem to work normally and you have at least 10% free space on your hard drive? Sudden program insanity in OS-X can be caused by the hard drive filling up. Pull down the piano trill music clip from here... http://www.kozco.com/t...

Re: Effects>Amplify vs. Envelope
Compression seems to be the tool for you. A word about that. We're talking about volume compression, not digital compression. Done properly, (and I haven't messed with the Audacity compressor very much yet) the overall volume of the performance is raised, but the very loudest parts encounter the kne...

Re: How do you move the cursor in playback mode?
<<<The documentation contains no reference that I can find on the subject of cursor positioning.>>>
That's because this is the first time anybody has ever heard of having this problem. I need to sit quietly and read all that again and figure out a way to proceed.

And you placed the cursor by clicking once inside one of the blue waveforms, right?
