Re: Recording at double speed. Playing back at normal speed

Do you have QuickTime Pro?

QuickTime Pro will allow you to record audio and/or video from the standard input devices. I'd be interested in what those files sound like. I think you can do this in Garage Band, too, but I know it's not straightforward there and I've never done it.

Re: Newbie Question- Multi Channel outputs?

More techie, but very possibly no better informed. Audacity has always had the reputation and specifications of being able to handle up to 16 tracks of audio. However, there's a startling lack of people that have actually done it. It's borderline Urban Myth. "My cousin knows somebody in their s...

Re: Notch filter problem

Trouble shooting. Launch Audacity fresh and click once inside the red record meters. They will wake up and start operating without putting Audacity into full record mode. If you select your turntable but don't play a record, the meters should bounce in the -50 range. Even that isn't all that good, b...

Re: Notch filter problem

What steps have you taken to make it so you don't need the notch filter in the first place? Most HiFi systems hum when a phonograph is connected because phono amplifiers have significant boost at 100 (and 120). They're a natural for causing problems. That's why all successful phono amplifiers have a...

Re: my recordings have gone a little strange!

<<<instead of the phono one>>> Oh, I missed that one. The Phono input of an amplifier is designed to connect to an older analog phonograph. The output of an analog phonograph is intentionally distorted with very low bass, accentuated highs, and a biased response curve. That's normal. The phono input...

Re: Can't open .wav files

Cick on the mystery file and Open With > QuickTime Player Once in QuickTime, Press Apple-I and see what the INFO panel says. I bet the files aren't "straight" WAV files.

Re: How can I get Audacity to tell me what format a file is?

<<<Or is Audacity's import wrong in saying that the file is MP3?>>> Audacity does that all the time. Check out all the postings of people that have a hard time playing sound files at the correct speed. Audacity imports an unknown sound file and applies a SWAG filter (Scientific Wild-Ass Guess). Auda...

Re: 1.2.6 and two sound cards

<<<Is it possible to make Audacity record 4 simultaneous tracks from two standard sound cards?>>> Audacity will record up to 16 tracks of audio from any one sound device. The joke is that you can't connect 8 turntables and get 16 tracks. If you can find driver software that makes your two sound card...
