Re: Can't Record Voice

I think we're in trouble. The Tube MP comes in many flavors. Do you have this one?

Re: No sound during playback.....

<<<Now I can get some music done. I have several hundred pieces that need help.>>>

Excellent sound clip. Are you actually hearing those extreme bass notes, or are you flying blind? Trust me, they're fine.

Re: Can't Record Voice

A Shure Brothers SM-58 is a very nice "dynamic" microphone, good for voice and very difficult to damage. "Dynamic" has nothing to do with the quality of a performance, it's just the name that engineers gave microphones that are built like this one. Inside, it has a small coil of ...

Re: Help please: Clipping Conundrum

We cringe every time we see audio systems measured in percent. 50% video gives you about half-brightness on the screen, but 50% audio is barely noticeable. Half volume to your ears is about -18 dB or, from Kolar above, 12%. He only took his list down to -30dB, but your ears are still working down to...

Re: Problem with fade in effect.

In earlier Audacity, it's Effect > Normalize. Unclick Normalize and click Remove DC Offset.

Of course, if you want to actually normalize as well, so much the better. Check them both.

Re: Problem with fade in effect.

You can get problems like this when you have DC offset on your sound. Root around through the effects (I'm not that familiar with 1.3) and look for "DC Elimination" or "DC Suppression" or something like that. Apply that to your whole show and then try applying the fade again. I h...

Re: Playback via your Microphone

Ventrilo probably appears to the system as a destination, like speaker or headphones. Your task is to find the panel with the Ventrilo device listed and select that as the playback target. If you're in Windows, that could take weeks. If you succeed, you may not be able to hear the playback locally a...

Re: Recording a cassette

I personally would have posted in one of the machine or Audacity version forums up above. Down here, we're just going to have to start asking you what computer you have, which operating system, which Audacity, which cassette player.....

Don't be fuzzy, either. Part numbers are good.
