<<<Working on an eMac, OS 10.4.11. I'm working, with routine editing success, with Audacity 1.2.6.>>> This is a PowerPC, right? That's what it says under Apple > About This Mac? How big is your hard drive and how full is it? Are you in 24-bit audio? Assuming that's a PowerPc, I can't see anything wr...

How are you creating these special effect sound clips?
If you download the short piano trill...

Re: Problem with recording vocals
Audacity is recording "Mix Out" from the machine instead of just your voice. This is the setting people use for recording internet radio shows. Windows gets painfully complicated when you want it to play to your headphones in addition to recording a microphone--and still keep everything se...

<<<I close all doors...>>> I was dangerously close on the rose-cluster wallpaper, though, wasn't I? Are you sure you don't have a picture of Brighton Beach on one of the other two walls? That explains the slightly "live" presentation. Two sets of parallel walls and; is that linoleum on the...

Re: podcasting-music
The instant you start to do live audio production for anything--podcast or live radio broadcast--you fall into the market for a mixer. Two microphones or a microphone and music playback can certainly be done in Audacity--in post production, maybe a day or two before the finished show goes out. Recor...

Re: Input Volume
You'll need to go into the Dreaded Windows Sound Control Panels. For a microphone like that, some sound systems have a "20 dB Boost" switch for the microphone channel. That switch wouldn't be available in Audacity. Audacity is a complete slave to whatever Windows/Mac/Linux does to the soun...

Re: Selection Tool taking big cuts
Audacity Insanity can be caused by trying to edit a sound file that Audacity doesn't understand. Pull down the short Piano Trill from here... http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html ...and try to edit that. I bet it works just fine. Audacity only understands a limited number of formats; WAV, AIFF,...

<<<Thanks for the help re my Yamaha keyboard. One last question to see if I got this right - in order for me to hear what I'm playing, I need the splitter - then do I plug the 1/8" cable into the computer and a 2nd 1/8 " cable into, let's say, my stereo so I can hear what the keyboard is p...

Re: Soften Harsher Sounds
I patched that link. I left one of the bracket symbols off, so the system couldn't see it as a link. I would have to really lean into "Drumbeat" with headphones and the volume turned up. It doesn't sound "natural," but it's so close I can't tell what's actually wrong with it--oth...
