Re: lost sound after saving .aup file

Audacity Projects are brittle and prone to failures. After you capture a valuable live performance, Export as WAV at the earliest opportunity. If it's a 'never available again in the whole world' performance, then make a copy of that WAV and lock it up in a safe place. Use that first WAV file for ed...

Re: Audacity won't show a waveform, but why?

Just so I understand this, you get the proper display... http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/Audacity1_playback.jpg ...but instead of blue wavy lines, they're straight and flat? The blue waveforms will only take you down to -30dB or so. If your sound level is below that, it will not show. Forget the Auda...

Re: lost sound after saving .aup file

You didn't save an AUP file. You saved an Audacity Project which is a pile of interlinked files. The AUP is the supervisory file, not a sound file. It's in XML semi-English. You can open it up in TextEdit and read it. File > Open With > Applications > Text Edit. http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtop...

Re: Speaker/Microphone Headset Question

This is the one we've been using. It takes a computer microphone (it supplies the 6 volts) and a stereo headset.

Re: Error opening project

<<<Do you have any advice on how to fix this?>>> I can give you the standard advice to always Export As WAV any time you have valuable work--including live performance captures. You join a very large club of people who don't realize how brittle and delicate an Audacity Project is. From the time you ...

<<<I'll post back when I've tried it.>>>

Yes, please.

I personally have never used SoundFlower, but I understand what it does and it's pretty simple The controls may not be the best.

Re: Can't duplicate, copy or split track

<<<When I try to copy a track, and past it into a new empty mixer I only get a few seconds of sound and the rest of the track is silent.>>> Can I guess that you're starting out life with an Audacity Project and you're trying to cut and paste with that? We know that Audacity doesn't much like having ...

Re: newbie - startup problem

I had Audacity do this to me last night and I figured out something else that can cause this problem. Go back into Audacity Preferences and make sure they are as you left them. My preferences had switched from 2-channel (stereo) to 4-channel audio. No idea why, but it cleared up immediately when I f...

Re: How to record what my iMac's speakers are playing?

Yes, but a Mac will not do this voluntarily. It represents an instability point as you will find if you go read all the sound trouble Windows people have that Macs don't. ("How come I have echoes when I record my microphone...I get squeaky howling when I....") I have a license for WireTap ...

Re: how do i put track numbers on my cd's?

Put a marker at the front of each segment you want as an individual clip. Project > Add Marker, although there is a keyboard shortcut. Control-B ?? The last marker will point to the whole rest of the timeline, so be careful. After you complete marking up your timeline, File > Export Multiple and pic...
