Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac
<<<I know that in the past there was a chance that Audacity would "steal" the internal Mac audio output settings>>> First I heard of this. Audacity is a complete slave to the operating system audio settings and most people have trouble the other way 'round. I can't get audio into Audacity ...

Re: need to increase input volume
<<<You could always record on the minidisk, then record from the minidisk player into the Mac.>>> So I hit it a lot closer than I thought. Yes, double recording would work. It lets you be a lot more portable as well--and gives you hardware backup. We like hardware backup. <<<"get a mic that is ...

Re: Effect amplify - denegrate sound at some amt?
Nothing happens to the audio signal before 0.0. but if your speaker or headset amplifier is right on the brink of collapse, it doesn't take much to push it over the edge. It takes about an 18dB increase in audio signal for you to hear double volume--that's the audio signal doubling three times. So i...

Re: Delete sound under -40 db
["Unfortunately, this effect can only be applied to Mono sounds files. Stereo files will need to be reduced to Mono before this effect can be utilized."] A reading from a help web site. I'm betting you're not going to like the effect anyway. It's easy to overdo noise removal and get other ...

Re: effects - normalize vs amplify
I do almost everything with an idea of my audio peaks hovering around -3. It's a good compromise and is the only value available in Audacity 1.2. Audacity 1.3 gives you the ability to choose any value you want. I still pick -3. Normalize is an automatic Amplify. Apply 6dB Amplify to a sound track an...

Re: Copyright
You don't really have a church, do you? You just want to see hundreds of uninformed people debate a polarizing hot-button issue. No? I suppose the first thing I would do is not post the idea on a public bulletin board read by the RIAA, the Recording Industry watchdogs. You were very firmly in the fu...

Re: Audacity recording but not in stereo
Audacity wakes up from first birthday in mono. Change in Audacity Preferences and restart.
<<<the Mac’s built in mic port.>>>
Probably not unless you have a reeeeeeally old Mac. All the newer Macs have Line-In, not Mic-In. Which is fine because that's really what you need.

Re: need to increase input volume
<<<Can you help?>>> No, or at least I can give you information, but I can't solve your problem. The information from the Sony web site claims that this is a perfectly delightful, self-powered condenser microphone with dual capsules and effects patterns. It's stereo and will plug directly into a Sony...
