Re: reducing MP3 file size

The amount of MP3 compression and thus the filesize is set in Audacit Preferences > File Formats > MP3 Export Setup. Do not use the already compressed work for your show. MP3 compression damage is cumulative. Go back to the original WAV protection export of your show (which I'm sure you made) and Ex...

Re: What appears to be "clipping"

<<<Unfortunately my signal chain is a little longer than a "$13 sound card">>> But somewhere, the sound had to go from analog to digital and that's where I would be looking. It's also possible in a very complex system, for a buss to be leaking or overloading sending distortion the rest of ...

Re: Automatic Track Marks

You can simulate that in post. Put the whole service on one timeline and select chunks every inch or so down the performance, adding labels as you go (Apple-B). Then Export Multiple and you will get individual exported files suitable for adding to a CD as individual tracks. Don't forget to park one ...

Re: long audacity file saved as repeating loop - why?

<<<I just digitized 4 LP sides into 4 Audacity files.>>> <<<Any explanations? Thanks>>> Yes. You join a long list of people burned by Audacity Projects. When you captured your vinyl, Audacity didn't save a file. Audacity Saves Projects which can be thousands of audio snippets, directory structures a...

Re: lost sound after saving .aup file

That's it.

When you save a Project, Audacity makes a record of where your sound clips are. If you move them, you lose.

Re: "theft" of audio output by Audacity on Mac

<<<I believe if you asked Audacity to record say 16 bit 48000 Hz, and observed Audio MIDI Setup, you'd see it change to 48000 Hz and then other apps may not have sound.>>> Given my video background, I do 48K/16 all the time on three different Macs and have never noticed all my audio applications sto...

T-Bones are new (to me). Did you have any trouble with battery life or breakup?

Re: Delete sound under -40 db

OK, now that you're whimpering and bleeding in the corner, why is the room noisy? The kind of noise makes an enormous difference as to appropriate tool. If you're trying to pull one conversation out of a lot of them, you're dead. If you're competing with air conditioning noise, there are ways out of...

Re: Make a Recording Sound Like a Phone Call

That's good to go with. I use the numbers 300 to 3000 because they're easy to remember, but the real numbers are much closer to his. Voice transmission may not go higher than about 2400 because 2600 is the pitch that telco management signal tones use. Manipulating tones at 2600 will cause odd things...

Re: Horrible distortion when recording 12" singles

Disks aren't that much louder. You have something else wrong. Your cartridge is a high-output (almost certainly) moving magnet cartridge. If the switch on the back of your preamp is set to moving coil (MC) the resulting output voltage boost will drive the system nuts. Exercise the switch a couple of...
