Re: Seemingly random audacity crashes
<<<I don't know what else to try>>> "After A While" insanity can be caused by a number of things. --Your hard drive is filling up--or the drive that Audacity is using for temporary files. The production drive should never be over 90% full. --Your drives are way too fragmented. DeFrag often...

Re: Filtering Out Rumble
Good idea. If you actually have rumble and it's not directly interfering with the show, then anything that can dip the frequency response around 100 Hz will help a lot. The equalizer tool--especially the one in Audacity 1.3 is good here as is any tool called "Low Cut" or "High Pass.&q...

Re: Ripping vinyl through a laptop...Need advice
<<<the external sound card, which I think is working as a preamp>>> By "preamp" in this case we mean an amplifier that will boost the weak signal from your turntable, remove the RIAA distortion that is applied to every disk and suppress the hum that invariably results when you do the first...

Re: new track everytime i click "record"?
<<<why can't I select "new audio track" and then record on the new audio track I just selected? >>>
Because you're not using Audacity 1.3?
It's enormously easier to program it that way than to program and trap all the errors in real-time capture-editing

<<<How do I un-do an effect >>> Edit > UNDO doesn't work? <<<can I apply multiple effects to a track? ??? Re: new track everytime i click "record"?
<<<Anyone know what's going on here?>>> What's going on here is you're trying to make a live capture and post production program into a real-time production tool. In your very next breath, you're going to ask us to apply special effects and tone modification tools as you record. It won't do that, ei...

Re: Hiss
If you're using the Mic-In (Microphone Input) of your laptop, then that's the way it is. The electronics in PC laptops will not win any awards for low distortion and low noise. If your laptop has a Line-In, you might be able to connect that to, say, the headphone out of your guitar amp and record th...

Re: New User Qs
There is a noise reducer in 1.2 but it's so bad that it almost doesn't exist compared to the one in Audacity 1.3. There is no commercial De-Esser available for Audacity, hence the design and programming above. No shortage of people needing that because, over and above people actually sounding like t...

Re: Recording Skype Interviews with Audacity
I'm hoping somebody posts to tell me I'm full of soup, but I don't think so. I think maybe you can record either half of the conversation, but I don't think you can ever get both. By the time you figure out how to record everything you want, you can't make the call any more. Skype and its cousins ta...

Re: Can't get a waveform w/ everything set to 'line in'?
Deinstall both SoundFlower and Hyjack Pro and restart your machine. You should never have both of these installed on your machine at the same time. Each one will try to steal the sound services from the other. What you want is irrelevant. That should make it possible to record the 1/8" Line-In ...
