Re: Error while opening sound device

<<<When I open Audacity as either a stand alone or through Ableton, it imports the wave files fine,>>> Let me rewrite that to what I think you meant. When I open Audacity as either a stand-alone sound capture program or a sound capture program through Ableton, it captures the sound data just fine an...

Re: Please help.

My money is on a dirty connector. Both 1/4" and 1/8" plugs can be cleaned with alcohol and paper towels. Windex, rubbing alcohol and vodka are all cousins of each other. All work. Throw some alcohol on a paper towel and scrub the electrical connections on the end of the cable. then dry the...

Re: No recording

<<<Also make sure the right number of channels is selected (usually either 1 for mono or 2 for stereo).>>> Having the wrong number of channels will not prevent a recording. It will just give you a damaged one. The red record meters can be a handy troubleshooting tool. When you set up to record a per...

Re: Exporting music and no files saved?

Audacity will try to manage sound clips it doesn't understand. Not all tools work when you do that. Try pulling the very short piano trill down from here and export that. http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html And just to cover a common problem, you are Exporting, right, not Saving? Saving will n...

<<<stevethefiddle I have sent you a PM>>> We assume with an offer to market the new De-Essing Tool. Get a good distribution deal and you might be able to afford a nice retirement home in Brighton Beach. It couldn't be to continue to diagnose C&V's problem because that would mean the rest of us w...

<<<everytime I try to record>>> ...try to record.......What? and How? My money is on a record or origination problem. But just to make sure, pull down the Left-Right test audio track and play it on your machine. http://www.kozco.com/tech/soundtests.html Do the first three clips sound OK and the last...

Re: File Splits/Times Not Showing

You have discovered something that drives Audacity users nuts. Audacity maintains a Preferences file that you screw up when you screw up. That file is carefully preserved when you delete Audacity and install a fresh one. So you open up the fresh Audacity that you struggled so hard to download and in...

Re: Hiss

<<<I get a hiss when its plugged into the power supply>>> I wouldn't be shocked to find a "dirty" power supply injecting noise into a computer sound system. There are reports of cheap audio equipment where you can tell when the hard drive spins up--because you can hear it in the show. Peop...

Re: Unwanted Pitch shift

There are instances where Audacity had troubles dealing with 24-bit sound. Does it still do that if you try production at 16-bit or 32-bit floating?
