Re: garageBand wont recognise file
<<<I edited a piece of audio in audacity and then exported to a wave file. >>> Did you change the format in preferences before you started using Audacity? Audacity defaults to 44100, 32-bit floating at first birthday. That's a very nice format, but a lot of other programs don't know what it is. Auda...

Re: Hello - Newbie here!
You hit the one thing we don't do well. Modern Macs do not have microphone inputs. It's Line-In only which needs a much louder signal to work. The cheapest good-quality way out is a USB microphone. That has certain problems, like you need to be close to your computer at all times. Another way out is...

Re: recording album sides and dividing to separate tracks
<<<Does'nt seem right...........anyone have the solution? Keep it simple for this newbie if possible.>>> It's not right. The programmers are all Windows Weenies. I poke fun at them often. Press Apple-B at the beginning of each cut you want individually identified. Then File > Export Multiple. It won...

Re: New User - Effects greyed out
Anyone who has access to the original studio mix tapes can remix a perfect show without the lead singer. Past that, it's an uphill battle with zero chance of success. The process has been compared to carefully removing the chocolate from a chocolate cake. Those are the only three software packages I...

That's the hard way, yes. There are tools to do this task in one, or a lot fewer steps. Center Pan Remover (Voice Remover--Search the page for "Center Pan Remover") http://audacityteam.org/download/nyquistplugins Voice Isolator (Opposite of Center Pan Remover) Voice Trap http://www.cloneen...

Re: I Have A POP Filter But I Can Still Hear Distortion!
OK. One more. Do you have really good speakers on your mixing system or do you have something like Koss Pro-4AA headphones? You have a bass track so loud the neighbors called over and said they enjoyed it very much. I'm not in an apartment. A nuclear bass track can cause problems in mixes. Just make...

Re: I Have A POP Filter But I Can Still Hear Distortion!
OK. I got the idea. The URL goes right through. I changed my mind. Don't throw the condom away. Save it as the dust shield when you're not using your microphone. That one step should give you much brighter sound. You're hard to understand because your voice has no edge to it. That's the only part I ...

Re: I Have A POP Filter But I Can Still Hear Distortion!
Do you need a subscription to myspace? You want a pop filter, not a wind screen. Take the foam condom off your microphone (and in my opinion, throw it away) and put one of these between you and the microphone. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=microphone+pop+filters&tag=googhydr-20&a...

Re: Changing MP3 to lame MP3
<<<Cool Edit uses Fraunhoffer encoding >>> Yes, mine does, too. However, neither one was free. I don't know of another open source encoder. I think you can do it in QuickTime Pro. QuickTime is a free download for anybody, Mac or not, and Pro is a $30 upgrade. Nope. Never mind. It won't do that. I kn...

Re: Lost Recording - Help
Most people write that their computer crashed during a performance and they want to rescue thousands of little AU files in the _DATA folder. In other words, they have no show, but it looks like they should have--or could have if they played their cards right. They shouldn't, couldn't, and can't. You...
