Is your computer filling up? Do a properties on your hard drives and see. No production hard drive should be over 90% full. You should defrag your drives, too. Audacity has a really hard time recording music on a badly fragmented drive.

<<<I am a criminal defense lawyer trying to play a "WAV" recording made from a local police video & 911 tape.>>>
You can open up the WAV file in Audacity, right? Do you get the bouncing green sound meters when you play the file?

It is a stunningly bad idea to post your email address on a public bulletin board. I have removed it. Your email service will vanish under a ton of junk mail. I will put it back if you want me to, but let's see if we can resolve this without it.

Re: HELP with LAME!!!
That's a Dynamic Link Library. Windows understands that just sitting there. The instructions should have told you where to put it so Audacity and Windows can find it.

Re: Some songs change speed when it is imported.
Audacity only understands three or four sound formats; OGG, AIFF, WAV, and MP3. If you apply a foreign sound file, like MPa, MP4, or ACC, Audacity will try to play it and make a mess. You need to make your sound files into one of those that Audacity understands.
