Re: Recording the computer's own audio output
<<<I downloaded Audacity to record the output of my computer>>> Which is precisely the thing Macs don't do. Windows machines do this just fine, and I can refer you to the Windows forum where fully two thirds of the questions have to do with the damage that causes. Windows Vista, by the way stopped d...

Re: Bad on one computer, not other
The way Windows (and Linux) did their sound services isn't very sound. They took all the directions and all the possible pathways and combinations and devices and brought them all out to several huge switch and fader panels and then left for vacation in Tegucigalpa. Have a, like, you know, nice day....

Re: Recording Telephone Call
The other way to do all of this in real time is a speakerphone setup and a live microphone. Push the microphone back and forth on the table until the volume balance is about right--you in real life and the speaker sound from the actor at the far end. If you're on Vonage or one of the other computer/...

Re: Ripping vinyl through a laptop...Need advice
MP3 Export quality is set in the Audacity Preferences > File Formats. That MP3 compression number for relatively serious work should never drop below about 128. Really good quality numbers go into the 200 and 300 range. Set that for something really high (384-ish) and try the export again. This will...

Re: combined files
<<<the application suddenly closed and I saved the recovered file.>>> How did you do that? Most people never get that far after a crash. <<<can anyone please help me with this>>> This is a new version of a very old problem. The answer is, probably not. Audacity Exports sound files, but Saves Project...

We had trouble with your link posting. Where did you get the original sound from?

<<<The weirdest thing happened today. I’m a life coach in supevision and have been been using Audacity to record phone calls (with permission, of course) with no problems for well over a month...>>> Oh, maaaaaan. I was going to ask you how you did that because that's extraordinarily difficult to do....

Re: Exported MP3s have stutters - PLEASE HELP!
We've had people with MP3 insanity destroy the lame installation, download a fresh one and install that.
Between those two events--after you delete the lame file, try to export a short music piece to MP3 and it should fail. That's the confirmation that the old lame software is gone.

Re: Noise reduction for hiss - is there a solution?
Is there a brief sample of noisy performance on-line somewhere (you can't put it here). Something with a second or so of no voice noise only and a ten second performance. Try not to compress the pants off it in MP3 format. Uncompressed WAV is good for testing.

Re: Noise reduction for hiss - is there a solution?
In all the Audacitys, you can set everything up and just before recording a performance, click once inside the red record meters. This will activate them for testing and they will meter the incoming audio without going into record. What's the level? Stuff the microphone under several layers of pillo...
