Re: No sound out of speakers
It's not unusual in the case of a USB device, for it to redirect both the input and the output. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Output. Is that set to the sound device you're expecting? Mine is set to Internal Speakers (PowerBook) and the sound automatically shows up at the headphone...

Re: Recording the computer's own audio output
<<<the OSX is 10.4.10 (Tiger) and the Audacity is 1.2.5>>> Versions matter all the time. I can't tell you the number of times I had to tell people that Audacity 1.2.6 will not run correctly on Intel-Tiger. So you have no built-in microphone. That's useful for troubleshooting if you're on a laptop. I...

...and you'll be programming that for us then? I can put you in touch with some of the other developers and you may be able to contribute code for them to work with.

<<<A Mac Pro with Tiger OSX, I forget which version.>>> When you're troubleshooting a broken system you can't have too much detail. Which version exactly? That's a MacBook Pro , a portable? You can't automatically assume I'm a Mac person. The other regular contributers are PC people and have to look...

Re: Recording the computer's own audio output
<<<From what I hear Audacity just doesnt like Macs or Macs don't like Audacity. >>> Who did you hear that from? Not from very many Mac users. Look at the number of complaints in the Windows forum compared to the Mac. The only two systemic Audacity problems I ever met were that 24-bit recording thing...

Re: Noise reduction for hiss - is there a solution?
<<<it won't be much help because I need the portability of the laptop. >>> I understand, but it might give us an idea what's broken. If the microphone does this on many different computers, maybe it's just a noisy microphone. Just a note that this microphone is a very cheap knockoff of a much more e...

Re: Eliminate clicking from concert tape
I can't download that music track. Are you sure it's an MP3 file? It downloads and then the player either crashes or fails to select.

Re: Interview: What to do about the noise on the non-speakin
<<<Someone suggested I use a noise gate>>> No, you can't use a noise gate and you can't use regular noise tools, either. Noise gates seem great and everybody uses them...once. Then they go out in the garage. They sound terrible and they're extremely hard to adjust to get awful results. A word about ...

Re: problem recording from cassette player
If you can hear the cassette player through the headphones, there's nothing wrong with that. You should have a cable with a headphone plug (1/4" stereo) to 1/8" stereo to plug into your computer. I hope to goodness you have a deskside PC machine. If you do, plug the cable into the Line-In-...
