<<<Well, I bought it partially to run a digital vinyl system (I'm a dj)- and it does that perfectly.>>>
It would have been good to know that way at the beginning. So this computer has very special audio driver software to manage the DJ system...?

Re: Low Volume Recording
We need you to go back there with a flashlight and tell us exactly which connectors are plugged into what. Both of these devices are completely capable of managing both digital or analog audio transmission and there's no way to tell from your posting. icons, English words, or colors. We need somethi...

Re: Automatic playback and silence detection -- is it possib
I don't believe any version of Audacity is scriptable, but someone will correct me. That and "Silent Sense" is one of those good ideas that sounds like it should work so well and solve a lot of problems, It is, it does, but it doesn't. Silent Sense is usually used once, sometimes with a lo...

<<<it also told me that laptops switch automatically.>>> That hasn't been our experience. Most laptops stay right where they are. It's pretty difficult to switch back and forth because of straight hardware considerations, and then over and above that, you get to pick the right Windows Sound Panel se...

Re: Adding crackle to audio
Of course equalize out the high and low frequencies as well. Suppress anything below 300 and above 3000. That's more or less the standard "telephone filter." For the clicking and noise, generally contributed by either a very nasty demark box or just leaky lines--or--a bad carbon microphone...

<<<What do I do now?>>> Stop looking in the wrong place. You should be messing around in the Windows Control Panels, not Audacity. Trying to email somebody a project is going to have almost zero chance of success. I'm on a Mac and even if I knew what an rar file was (I do) I'm going to have to go looking for the decompression software. That and my folder and directory structure is going to be different from yours, so it won't p...

Re: splitting vocals and background music
Maybe. Center Pan Remover takes out the voice and the other two isolate a singer from the music. The software almost never works right. They need an uncompressed stereo show with the singer in the exact center and no echo or special effects added to the voice. Nobody makes music like that, but its w...

Re: Audacity crashes on long recordings
<<<Audacity crashes when I do the longer ones>>> I'm not shocked. Audacity, particularly the early 1.2 version, is a very simple program and depends on its proper operation for the machine on which it's running to be really simple, too. <<<The system has two soundcards>>> So right away, you don't ha...
