AU files? Are you messing around inside your _data directory? If you removed anything from the _data directory, then Audacity will not be able to play the song associated with whatever you moved. Noise Removal only works with noise that doesn't change over the duration of the show.

No, but you can move the wave back down where it's supposed to be. This is an audio show with DC or battery voltage mixed in. It makes editing a complete nightmare, but it's easily removed. Another possibility. Did you close restart Audacity after you changed the settings from Mono to Stereo? Some Audacity preferences don't "stick" until you do that.
