Both of those programs are something of a slave to the Sound System in the computer. Once you straighten that out, everything will be sweetness and light.

Nobody has ever been able to recover a crashed Audacity show. If you manage to put everything back together again, you will be number one.

AU files aren't sound files. They're clips and segments part of a much larger Audacity Project.
