Re: How do I clean up a taped telephone conversation
<<<My partner uses Audacity. Yesterday we both purchased Microtrack II Digital Recorders because the Sonys are getting old and unreliable. The Microtrack comes with Audacity. I thought it was likely time we try and get on the same platform. What I need to do is get the phoners as clean as possible. ...

Re: left-Right Channel Balance?
If you mean "real time," no. Audacity doesn't do anything in real time. It's a lot easier than what you said. Channel balance is a simple setting to the left of the track. Oddly enough, it's the L-R control. It doesn't change the blue waveform, but the bouncing lights sound meter will chan...
Re: Lame mp3
That may be an unfortunate choice of Google words. WinRAR is a data compressor, not a sound compressor.

Re: Stereo Tracks (volume issue)
And you can also have phasing issues and we can deal with that, too. This is where you have external, good quality speakers that are wired incorrectly. Even though the wires seem to be going to the right places, if you mix that way, it will drive you nuts, and that, too, will not sound right on anyb...

Re: Need advise ...best microphone?
<<<it probably depends on what you're listening to.>>> Or more to the point, what your audience is. If you know everybody is going to be listening in the car, headphones are a complete waste of time. <<<Personally I hate monitoring through headphones>>> So do I, and I think good speakers are a swell...

Re: How do I clean up a taped telephone conversation
I predict (pressing fingers to forehead) the poster wants to even out their voice volume as compared to the voice at the far end.
Takin' bets.

Re: How do I clean up a taped telephone conversation
You can make a telephone bandpass in the Audacity equalizer. I personally would use Audacity 1.3 and pull down everything below 300 and everything above 3000. The upper end technically should be 2500, but I don't think you can adjust the filter that accurately. <<<I have a series of 20 minute phone ...

Re: How to have the mic trigger the record?
Audacity doesn't do live production well. Or at all. You're restricted to record, pause, and stop. After you get your track, then you can do silence-sense, auto silence deletion, and all sorts of tricks. Several people have advanced the idea for dictation tools and I believe there is a New Feature t...

Re: Stereo Tracks (volume issue)
I don't entirely trust most computer sound. I've seen several external speaker systems that would have to improve a lot to qualify for trash. It's also possible that your system is the only one broken. I would record the show, or enough of it so you can tell what's going on, onto a Music CD. I think...
