Re: Unwanted Concert Hall Effects
Found it. It's called "SRS WOW Effects," and it's a "feature" of Windows Media. As near as I can tell, it's setup isn't in preferences or any of the usual places. It appears in the lower left and it seems, only when you play a CD. I played a commercial spoken word CD and kept dig...

Re: Need to lower vol of one loud singer in a group.
You're a candidate for the compressor tool. It is a little involved to use, but it can be set to reduce volumes in the performance only if the performance goes over a set volume. I would be using the tools in 1.3. You can have 1.2 ands 1.3 on your machine at the same time as long as you don't open t...

Unwanted Concert Hall Effects
I'm playing home burned Music CDs on the DVD player inside my WinXP SP3 machine. I'm using Windows Media Player 9. The playback sounds awful. Deep echo concert hall effects. The only other CD player in the house isn't in the house. It's in the car, so we can't tell much from that. The individual sou...

Re: Low amplitude recorded from CD
We should also probably remember that the standard CD audio level is -17 dBFS. That works out to about 0.1% on the Audacity meters. But, you're right, even at that, your waveforms are really low. All the early CDs were recorded at that standard level although the newer ones aren't. The early Windows...

Re: 4 Channel Recording
Before you go too crazy, make sure your particular combination supports multiple audio channels and not multiple stereo devices. Audacity only supports one device, and even then it only goes up to 16 channels.

<<<I've done this many times before without trouble.>>> Have you filled up your hard drive before? If you're on a PC, when was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? I personally wouldn't do anything that involves live audio or video on the same machine that I'm doing anything else. Both of...

Re: Trying to record from minidisc to ibook G4
Nope. The early iBook G4 machines didn't have a Line-In. The only way out for you is one of the fine USB or FireWire analog audio adapters.
M-Audio seems to be pretty popular.

Which iBook? Processor?
I'm pretty sure my Dual USB G3 iBook had one and I know my PowerBook G4 has one.

Re: Using Audacity for a homemade electronic Osciloscope
We need to remember that the 2.0 Nyquist number is based on signal dithering. Without dithering noise added, the Nyquist rate jumps to 2.6
