Re: editing and fx order
How are you listening? It's possible you have a normal announcing style or presentation and your speakers or headphones are boosting your breathing and mouth noises. That's happened on the forum. It appears to me a whole bunch of that processing is compensating for bad recording technique—too close ...

Re: Crackling on Samson Meteor since firmware update
Koz will give you much better help Sure. Here it comes. It sounds a little like noise gate clipping to me. I bet if you dig into your Meteor software, you're going to find settings to help you create a conference or chat. Auto Noise Reduction, etc. Turn all those off. Entertainment reading and Conf...

Re: Hi and Low Pass Filters to reach ACX -60dB level
That's the comeback for people who want to dash off their audiobook. "How bad could this possibly be? Not bad at all if you're a professional announcer in a formal sound studio and you're not the one that's cutting it. There is a video performer I like who will come right out and say, "Don...

Re: Hi and Low Pass Filters to reach ACX -60dB level
I did find two vertical crackles or spikes in an audition I just did Do you know what's causing them, or are you guessing? Tiny unstable recording problems can drive you nuts in the course of a book wherever they come from. Nobody wrote you have to record your book on the computer. https://www.kozc...

The black tennis racket is the p...

Re: RMS level
Step one. Export a WAV sound file or Save a Lossless project of your raw reading— before you mess with it. We publish the Audiobook Mastering Suite of tools, and it does know what RMS is. Quick Side Trip: https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=297423#p297423 MasteringSuite.png That's from th...

Re: Using MP3 in a project
If you make a WAV copy of an MP3, you have just made a perfect, clear, uncompressed copy of the MP3 plus the MP3 distortion.

Re: Using MP3 in a project
MP3 is something of a time bomb. Each time you make a new one out of an old one, it gets a little worse. Whoever gets stuck at the end of the chain has to listen to a honky, bubbly show. We had a poster who was doing a broadcast radio show by downloading MP3 music at home and then mix-announcing com...

Re: Hi and Low Pass Filters to reach ACX -60dB level
it is weird that the noises only show up once you start narrating. That's a significant symptom. That can be Windows Services trying to "clean up" your voice for chat or conferencing. Gating can be one of the tools (ACX doesn't like that very much). Dig into Windows settings and make sure...
