Re: HELP!! I just permanently deleted ALL my files..
<<<Can I put them back together manually?>>> I think the record among all the people who tried to recover damaged Projects is two. And both of them had single, really simple Projects. Do you still have any of the AUP files for your shows? If you open them up in a word processor (they're not audio fi...

Re: Error opening sound device
<<<Any further hints?>>> Not from me. This is Audacity's version of the old Microsoft "The program has encountered an error -- Abort/Retry/Fail?" Singularly unhelpful. I've advanced the idea of a diagnostic program you can run to help you with this, but nothing from the developers, so far....

Re: New To Program And Needs Help
<<< Do you know a good program that can?>>> I don't know any program that can recover lost quality, good or otherwise. That's the down side of MP3 and the picture version of that, JPEG. Audacity 1.3 lets you set compression at the export step. It won't reverse the damage, either. Koz

Re: Error opening sound device
I'm remembering this now. There are a couple of instructions out of order. I never patched the web page. Make sure the microphone is turned on right after you plug it in.

<<<I never was much of a comedian>>>
I'll roll on the floor if you want.
In Windows, we can have a complicated kluge with many instructons and wikis. On a Mac, it would just do what I wanted (normalize to -3dBFS and ignore any + or -).

Re: Error opening sound device
There's no good way out of this. Last time it happened to me, Audacity had taken it in its craw to switch from stereo to four channels of sound in preferences. I put it back and the problem vanished. I couldn't quite follow what you did. System Preferences cannot see my USB microphone by name. All I...

Those are probably Greek, but scrambled lettering in Audacity sometimes responds to trashing the preference file. Close Audacity. Search the system for a file called audacity.cfg and rename it or trash it. Open Audacity and it builds a nice fresh preference file, hopefully with the problem solved. A...

Re: HELP!! I just permanently deleted ALL my files..
<<<undelete by disk doctor?>>> That may be your only hope, only don't get up too much hope. Windows Disk Operating System(s) works by breaking up a file into pieces and spraying it around the hard drive. It keeps a listing of what it did. It used to be called the File Allocation Table (FAT). Remembe...

Re: Laptop noise problem
<<<I use the tape out RCA's with a Stereo RCA to stereo mini into the mic input of the computer>>> Does the laptop instructions say with specific words that it can convert the very low level Mic-In connector to high level Line-In when you need it? Some computers do, some don't. PC Laptops in particu...

Re: The Letter 'Z'
Please note that if you find that file and trash it, Audacity will return to First Birthday. All your presets will be gone.
