Which preamplifier and how is it connected to the computer? Be specific. Part and model numbers. Which computer?
I'm guessing you have the Line_Level output of the MicPre connected to the Mic-In of the computer. You are overloading the sound card of the computer.

Re: Low recording level using Audio Genie
Windows? Once the sound becomes a digital bitstream (USB) you're pretty much stuck with the level. You can certainly bring it up later in Effect > Amplify. The Audio Device is going to come with a software package to control the unit. The "Scaling Factor" (how loud the sound gets) is contr...

Re: Behringer USB Podcasting/Audacity problems
One more thing. There is a diagnostic mode in Audacity. Launch Audacity and when it settles down, click once inside the red record meters. They will wake up and start measuring the incoming sound without you going into record. No hard drive space used at all. They just sit there and bounce in time w...

Re: Behringer USB Podcasting/Audacity problems
It's probably not the wrong software. Audacity is a complete slave to what the Operating System does. It loads no drives or management software of its own. So. You need to dig around in the Windows Sound Control panels (you lucky dog) and see what's turned on and what's turned off. Windows Control P...

Re: Too fast playback&recording-chipmunk effect
The problem is Audacity will try to open up files that is has no idea how to manage. The chipmunk files are compressed in a foreign format--AAC, MP4, etc. You need to convert those to MP3 or WAV or one of the others in Audacity's arsenal before they will open and play OK. Quite a few music files now...

Re: LAME - how to download it?
It's also handy to make sure the Mac is showing you the whole filename. Finder > Preferences > Advanced > Show All File Extensions. You don't have to interpret the pictures by itself. koz.mov is a movie file, koz.doc is a Word for Windows file, koz.pdf is a Portable Document File, koz.jpg is a compr...

Re: NEW — SUDDENLY LOST SOUND?? HELP
Trashing Audacity doesn't do squat. You need to trash the Preferences file. Trash Mac Audacity Preferences /SystemDrive/Users/koz/Library/Preferences/audacity Preferences The later Audacitys had a .cfg (configuration) file in there. Audacity will start over again from First Birthday, so you need to ...

<<<it was on an intel using 1.2.6.>>>
That would be a trick because 1.2.6 doesn't run right on an Intel machine. You should be using 1.2.5.

Re: Record without Microphone???
Well, yes. Assuming your computer has a Mic-In (not just a Line-In) and assuming you have a speaker that has no amplifier inside, you can yell into the speaker and have it appear in Audacity. A simple speaker ... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Jensen-C8R-25W-8-Replacement-Speaker?sku=665001&...

<<<I would need to do a reboot of the machine.>>> Audacity is not inherently unstable, however, because it's work can have a very large footprint, machine troubles can show up that don't show up any other way--or at least not in an obvious way.
