Re: Computer recommendation wanted - eee pc, acer?
You may have answered your own question. Two of those three are Linux machines. That's not dreadful, by the way, and I don't think you have to compile the program (someone will correct me). I use Audacity on Red Hat machines all the time and it's remarkably stable--although I'm using the earlier ver...

Re: Lost association between source and .aup when moved fold
ALWAYS export to WAV after recording a valuable performance. Audacity Projects, say it with me, are brittle, easily damaged, and don't move well. We tell people they don't move at all because in a vast majority of circumstances, they don't. Strike one was when you renamed some of the files manually...

Re: Help with tracks!
Audacity was designed to manage any number of sound tracks between 1 and 16. You can tell Audacity the number of sound channels in Preferences > Audio I/O > Re...

<<<i tried doing a driver rollback to get the former driver, but it option was "greyed out".>>> Vista still has big problems with sound drivers. We warn people that if they find a combination that works, don't mess with it. I know how to get rid of the DC level in post (the everything move...

Re: Consistent/Same Volume
The obvious answer is to open or select one song and Effect > Normalize. Audacity in this version will automatically choose -3dB for you and that should work OK. Export to a new WAV or MP3 when it's done. Allow it to take the DC out. You do need to do this for each song. There is no global or batch ...
Re: USB sound
<<<I can playback .aup files.>>> Well, no. You can't. You can play Audacity Projects. The AUP file is a programming language management file you can open up in NotePad or WordPad and read. It's not a sound file. http://kozco.com/tech/audacity/aup1.jpg Magnify that if you need to and scroll around in...

It's different depending on the machine. Which kind of machine do you have?
