<<<i don't have the fan issue on skype>>>
How do you know? Skype doesn't have sidetone so the only person hearing the trash would be the other end. Most Skype users are delighted to get it to work at all and don't notice the noise.

Re: Noise Removal
<<<But I am wondering if Audacity can fix the recordings.>>>
That little sound clip was the best I could do in 1.3. It's only corrected in the middle to establish the contrast. If that's not acceptable, then you have no show with that computer.

<<<to my Mac>>> Which one? Dual 2GHz G5? Tiger? Leopard? How big is your hard drive and how full is it? You're doing it the way I do it. It's most unusual for Macs to have problems like this. Are you trying to download {word rejected} while you're playing your work? That may not work very well. You ...

Re: neophyte recording on laptop with built-in mike - loud f
The noise removal tools in Audacity 1.3 work pretty good, but I don't think they're any match for fan noise louder than you are. It is a little unusual for a laptop to run at full cooling all the time. Mine cycle on and off. Record during the quiet interludes. Past that you're looking at an external...

Re: Noise Removal
http://www.kozco.com/audacity/soundbyte2.mp3 First stop using Audacity 1.2 the Noise Removal tools in 1.3 are enormously better. You can have 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same time as long as you never launch both at once. You gotta figure out what's causing that. I can't get rid of it and I ...

Re: Echo coming from turntable as I'm recording
You can dig in the Windows Sound Panels and turn off anything you're not using--like Mix Out, or What You Hear. Those can cause an echo. Windows Control Panel http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Mixer_Toolbar_Issues#Using_the_Control_Panel If you're in Vista, that's a whole different proble...

<<<does that have anything to do with it>>>
Probably not.
Audacity Preferences > Audio I/O
Make sure either Software Playthrough or Hardware Playthrough is selected. Pick the one with the least delay problems while you're performing.

<<<Vivtar 4100 digital camera>>> <<<its techially list as an MPG in the title but its actually a WAV file>>> I don't believe you. Unfortunately in Windows, it's a little rough to prove that one way or the other, but if it was a conventional Windows WAV file, it would be playing. Audacity is a very s...
