Re: MP3 - what all does "lossy" mean?
Every time you do production in MP3, the loss damage goes up. MP3 is a delivery format, not a production format. The official description of the "loss" is that the format selectively sheers off the quiet parts of the music you wouldn't be able to hear anyway. This effect is usually on a sl...

Re: v1.3.6 vs Labeling vs Keyboard shortcuts
<<<the keyboard commands are still enabled>>>
You may be able to get rid of that by trashing the Audacity Preference file. Audacity goes straight to First Birthday when you do that, but the schizophrenic keyboard should go away.
Search audacity.cfg.

Re: Your Opinions Please
We do live spoken word shows with Audacity all the time. Successfully. I would warn you to avoid Audacity's Save tools. They are misleading and brittle. Once you capture a cassette tape, immediately Export As WAV to get a stable, high quality sound file for archiving and further production. If you'r...

However, if you don't use Projects, like me, then the Exported WAV files open perfectly either direction.

Re: 1.2.6 noise removal superior to 1.3.6 ??
I got a note once from one of the program daddies and he said that if you turned off all the extra adjustments in 1.3.x, you got the same noise removal as in 1.2.x. One was built above the other. I have never found the earlier noise removal tool to be useful at all. If you have the one job that it's...

Re: Audacity with M-Audio Fast Track
On Windows® machines, this is almost always an issue with getting the very latest Windows updates and M-Audio drivers. Sometimes you need earlier drives, so don't throw anything away.

Does Cubase directly support 32-bit floating point sound files? Did you read that or are you assuming it does?

Re: music removal?
I believe there is only one software package that claims to be able to isolate a voice performance from the instruments and do a reasonable job of it. It cost money and the results are usually terrible. Isolating a voice is extremely difficult to do for the grownups. The rest of us usually give up. ...

<<<plug directly into the back of my computer.>>> And the type of computer is... Let's assume you're plugging into the Mic-In of the sound card in a deskside PC. Is it working OK for you? If you stop talking, is there an objectionable constant hiss in the background? Internal microphone amplifiers a...

Re: I can import mp3 only once by session
There is a common mistake where everybody assumes iTunes music files are MP3. They're not. Most of them are Apple AAC which Audacity will sometimes open and play, but will not edit or do any post production. The common work-around is to create a playlist of your music and burn the playlist to a Musi...
