Re: MP3 - what all does "lossy" mean?
<<<I read that wav was 'microsoft'>>> It is. Microsoft / IBM WAV file format at one time was the most universal sound file format in the world. It is directly supported, read and write, on Windows, Mac, Linux and probably earlier machines. Even the iPod will accept and play WAV sound files if you ne...

Re: How to filter away unwanted sound from my recording?
You did post to isolate one specific sound from a recording. Could a voice be this sound? All the voice isolator tools work with a stereo track. If the original recording is in mono--even if it's in two-track mono (fake stereo) then you really are dead.

Re: Saving files properly.
<<<Any clues would be appreciated.>>> Audacity does not save sound files. It saves Projects which are Audio Production Management Environments consisting of many files--none of them, by the way, are sound files. I would Export As WAV after capture. That will give you straightforward sound files that...

Re: Help - I cannot control the recording levels
Did any software come with it? When you plug an iMic into a Mac, they hold hands and just start working. On a PC, you might need driver software or update your Windows System software.
Do you have the switches on the iMic set right? The older units had a Mic/Line level switch.

The other thing that can cause Sudden Computer Insanity is a filling up hard drive. No drive on a video or audio system should be over 90% full.

Re: Silence after saving
<<<Providing you have access to all the files, cutting and pasting the three tracks into one (so they play as an end-to-end track) should not leave silences.>>>
Right. There are pieces of this we don't have yet.
Where did you get the original sound files from?

<<<Guess I'd better look for another brand.>>> It's a little more exciting than that. USB Turntables as a group suck. Do you intend to take good care of your turntable to insure years of faithful service and then leave it to your kids? No? My guess is you're going to throw it in the dumpster when th...

Re: Making voice recording sound awesome
I agree if you need the noise removal right at the top, you have problems, but, having listened to the clip, what happens when you put the voice into the production? If you're going to add background music, special effects, and other dialog, I suspect what you got will be fine. When most people comp...

I do production in the highest quality WAV files I can get or manage. WAV files are universal, stable, and good quality and have no, that I've been able to find, bad surprises.
Producers hate surprises.
