Re: Error: junk after document element at line 8
Are you opening up an Audacity Project? my_cool_music.aup? Projects are brittle and easily damaged. Since a project isn't a real sound file, it depends for its existence on a bunch of other sound files and capture clips. If you like to clean up after yourself, it's possible that you accidentally des...

Re: Distorted recordings.
<<<my mixer works fine through the headphones and routing through amps.>>> You're describing about four different rooms in your post. Pick the single microphone and follow the signal to your computer calling out equipment types as you go. Pretend you're telling somebody how to wire up their system o...

Re: Recording Length
Audacity will only record until it runs out of room. You should inspect your hard drive and see how much room you have free. How you do that changes with the versions of Windows. I'm trying not to think about this, but it's also possible your USB turntable is broken. That happens a lot--some of them...

<<<"microphone" should work. >>> Or not. Windows Laptops typically have connections for a communications headset. That's earphone output and microphone input. The Microphone connection typically puts battery voltage on one of the wires and it's looking for a really tiny microphone signal o...

Re: Issue with Audacity 1.26 and Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard
Someone discovered a while back that you can trash the audacity preferences file and clear this up. Search for audacity.cfg.
Close Audacity, trash the file and restart Audacity.
Remember, Audacity starts at First Birthday when you do that. You need to put all your settings in again.

Re: Baseline of waveform was 0 now is 0.8
...Unless your offset is 0.8 out of 1. That means most of the room for sound has been taken up with the DC (battery voltage). Normal sound systems have no DC in the sound, but you can get that if you have broken equipment somewhere. You don't give us good detail of what happens between the cassette ...

Re: .au files disappearing
When you ask Audacity to play your edited show, it literally builds the show, in the fly and in real time, from all the chunks, fragments, and clips you told it to use. There is no Sound File until you Export. The silly metaphor is somebody building a road ahead of you as you drive to the 7-Eleven a...

Re: Silence after saving
Nobody understands Audacity Projects and until you get The Big Picture, seriously magic things can happen to your show. Put your music CD into your machine and pull the songs that you want into a fresh folder called, say, GlennMiller. (Let iTunes open up, but don't let it copy the songs) Forget the ...

Re: Overlapping recordings
Audacity is a pretty simple audio program. It has problems if more than one of itself is running and it certainly doesn't like it when 1.2.x and 1.3.x try to launch at the same time. Two computers it is. The backup doesn't have to be a computer. I think you can buy a simple stand-alone DVD recorder ...
