Re: LAME doesnt work with standard user account

I tend to conflate OS-X and UNIX because they're very nearly the same thing. We have System Administrators that set up Macs for the company entirely from the command line. No pictures.

So only in the sense of using the pictures is there a difference between UNIX and OS-X.

Re: LAME doesnt work with standard user account

It's also possible to use lame as a stand-alone program. "lame" will install on almost any UNIX based computer and run from the command line. Launch Terminal and navigate to your music. lame -h mymusic.wav mymusic.mp3 [enter] That's how I produce an MP3 of a weekly meeting I record for fur...

Re: silence auto detection and track idexing

Auto Silence Detect has never worked really well. It has to decide what's silence and what's a temporary quiet place in the performance. That's very difficult to do, and many people give up, do the large capture, and Control-B by hand. When you try to detect the spaces between songs in a phonograph ...

Can you take it back? Once these turntables go in the toilet, it's all over. Nobody on the forum has ever gotten one to recover once it fails. If you have albums typically you also have or had a real turntable around somewhere. Those are relatively simple to get running. That's what I did for my sis...

Re: How to have instruments from one song play another song

<<<(Simply put, I wish to have instruments from one song play another song).>>> Let us know how you get on. If you start out life with all the instruments on separate tracks, then you have a fighting chance with the vocoder and other ring-modulator software. Separating instruments from a mixed show ...

Re: Recorded tracks FADE OUT automatically

Audacity doesn't do real-time special effects. Many people would kill to be able to apply effects filters during a recording, but it doesn't happen. It sounds like you have auto sound leveling services for your microphone. You may find that if you talk instead of humming or whistling that the sound ...

"Shutting Down" a computer is something of a fairy tale. Major parts of the computer simply don't go off. If you have a large deskside machine, you can shut down and then crawl behind and see all the network services lights still blinking away. If you could see inside the cabinet, some mac...

As you already figured out, the AUP file is just an XML environment manager and you can edit it with any text editor. Make sure you understand the structure before you do it, though. Left sound on the top and Right on the bottom. This is a really simple AUP file in graphic form to illustrate the lay...

Re: transferring files to windows media player

Open up your Audacity show and Export As WAV. WAV sound files are Microsoft Native and will play on almost anything, Microsoft or not. If you run out of room, you can Export As MP3 which are smaller, but MP3 files are a lower quality. Audacity does not Save sound files. It saves Editing Production E...
