Re: Low level external noise when recording from usb turntab
<<<Actually if you are picking up what is known as "rumble" >>> Or not. I don't think this problem is normal. The other poster that had this problem gave up, disconnected the USB system and started to use the analog pathway we recommend for Mac users. When she did that, she still had to go...

Re: All S sounds becomes tzzssh
Just to be clear, you're moving songs from an old music CD into your computer, right? Do the shows sound live and spiky if you play the CD in your car?

<<<I'm new to Audacity and I'm trying to use the Vocal Removal tool.>>>

Re: total silence when recording and playback
<<<its just the basics.>>> Too basic. I remember it took three of us to get anything to work on my NT machines (I had two) and Windows 98 without the Second Edition doesn't support anything. If the machine is that old, chances are it has the older SoundBlaster card which had terrible sound--noisy an...

Re: total silence when recording and playback
<<<thanks for your help if you can>>> Oh, I think we should be able to do OK. It won't be fast, tho. I may be the only other person with a working Win98 machine. My Rolodex® is on there. You do have Win98 SE--Second Edition, right, not the older one? The non-SE version had some very serious problems...

Re: Recording Problems
Oh, wait. Do you want the track to play to your speakers while you record more? That's a special setting or two buried in... Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > One Of Those Clickies On The Bottom. Getting Windows sound services to behave is sometimes right up there with the answer to Life, The Univers...

Re: Recording Problems
Insanely quick but probably wrong answer. Are the "Mute" or "Solo" buttons pressed on the left of the track. A "Solo" track is the only one that will play. "Mute' kills one single track.

Re: Complete newbie [read: moron]: track length altered
<<<I have absolutely no idea what caused this>>> Chances are, we do. <<<or if it's normal or anything.>>> When Audacity encounters a strange audio file format it doesn't understand, it tries to open it and play it in real time. If the music file is compressed, the show duration is reduced ("How...

Re: Audacity 1.3.6 Beta Vocal Removal
You selected the audio you wanted to work on and then opened the tool, right? I don't think it will work without the selection first. Then you get a big panel explaining how it works and selection tools for frequency range and other characteristics. Nothing like that? Don't fall in love with that id...
