And it's higher or lower if you Export As WAV instead?
If you reimport the MP3 into Audacity, does everything return to normal, or you still have a damaged sound file--low waveforms?

Your timeline illustration shows an 8 KHz sampling frequency on the left. That's not high enough for music.
He's right. I think your sound card failed.

Re: Shortcuts with ALT on Mac
Gotta wait until I go home again. There's a joke from an LA attorney friend who has offices in New York. He says if you do it right there's only a fifteen minute window where you're both in the office at the same time. Most people arrange to be out of cell phone range during that time. <<<won't supp...

Re: vinyl-to-digital noise
The preamp I use and the Hafler both have turntable ground lugs and it is required that you use them for anything like quiet, well behaved performance. The signal that comes out of a conventional turntable is nothing like a standard, line-level audio signal, even though the cables and connectors see...

Oh. One other thing. Sometimes it's good to restart Audacity after you make a system change like that.

You win on Sports Call®. I suspect you have no other option than to upgrade to 1.3. Audacity 1.2 for Windows kept its preferences in the Dreaded Windows Registry. Abandon Hope All Ye... Once that gets scrambled, there's no way to fix it, unless you're really good with regedit and backup files. You c...

<<<including Audacity preferences>>> With very few exceptions, nothing Audacity can do affects the capture performance. It's all about the USB electronics. Many, many people would kill to have Audacity apply real-time recording filters and effects, but in the current versions, it just doesn't happen....

Re: Trying to Record Drums, not sounding too good, any ideas
Drums are a challenge for everybody, see: two microphones, above. Here in Hollywood, this is right up there with capturing a theatrical explosion. "What do you mean you can't just set one off so I can adjust sound levels..." Drum impacts exploit every known shortcoming of microphones. They...
