Re: Shortcuts with ALT on Mac
I have one of the two Leopards finished--the one with 1.3.7 on it. You don't remember all the auxilliary stuff you put on a machine to make it homey. Let's see, MacJanitor, FireFox ... I'll start a fresh new thread when I get both running and I'm ready to start testing. This will be exciting. Two co...

Re: Recording shuts off after 15 mins.
Did you get any error messages or did Audacity just crash and vanish?
Audacity will not do live production into a full hard drive or one that is badly fragmented. Do you routinely error check and defrag your hard drive? How big is the drive and how much room is left?

Re: HELP ! AUdacity 1.2.6 causing system crash
<<<I suspect this is an audio driver problem.>>> I suspect you have a very unstable machine. How full is your hard drive? No production machine hard drive should be over 90% full. If that's OK, go into drive Properties > Tools and do the drive error checker--check only. I probably wouldn't do a defr...

I bought one of these... http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/microphones/devices/221&cl=us,en ...possibly at Radio Shack in Los Angeles. I bought it just to see if I could get one to work, so it couldn't have been over $30. It has good sound level and adequate quality. If I w...

Re: distortion and failed recording
Thanks for your effort and we're glad this is working for you. However I don't think "downgrading" the Mac USB services is a particularly good way to go. It smacks of somebody who designed a product around a software error. Then, when the error was corrected (newer Macs) the older products...

Re: disk-->mp3 files are too large: filling my iPod memory!
Step one, forget MP3. Capture your vinyl in full-on 44100, 16 bit (or better, I use 48000) and export those as your archival master WAV files. They will be large, but they represent a perfect digital copy of your vinyl. Open iTunes. Preferences > General > CD > Import settings. Select AAC and start ...

<<<I closed the file to take a break.>>> That's the impression Audacity gives you, but if you saved your work, what you actually did was save the Audacity Project, which, depending on how complicated your show is, could be thousands of files. If you have a normal stereo show, we recommend Export As ...

Re: Will a normal USB microphone work?
You can do really well with a relatively cheap microphone as long as the "studio" is in good shape. Say a nice carpeted bedroom with drapes and a thick duvet (quilt) on the bed away from main highways. Unfortunately, a low-end microphone is usually associated with a ratty recording room wi...

Re: Recording Problems, Help Me?
I have one of those sound cards. You are about to get really good at mucking about behind your computer. The 7.1 sound cards changed the identity of the little connectors to get enough outputs. This may be one of the reasons all your outputs never worked right. The Whole World changes with the softw...
