Re: Sounds good everywhere but PC speakers

If you have 2.3.3, the effect is built-in. Effect > Filter Curve > Manage > Factory Presets > Low Rolloff for Speech > OK. That removes most low pitched sound below around 100 Hz. The broadcast and movie people who have to record outside use it to help with wind, handling, and wild rumble noises. Th...

Effect > Normalize has a setting to get rid of DC Offset. You can make Normalize remove DC and not do anything else.

Re: Bit-for-bit exporting of AIFFs

Noisy edits are not normal. You can get bad edits if you catch the waveforms in the wrong place. https://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/pix/BadAndGoodEdit.jpg The top wave will give a noticeable tick. I don't have a picture for this, but you can get a hit if you catch a wave anywhere but 0. Like get ha...

In My Opinion, the great leap happens when you take your environment out of the performance. Even with the video people, nothing says "newbie reader" quite like recording your voice in a bathroom. Or worse, your picture and sound don't match. One on-line doctor did a world of good for cred...

Re: EQ question

The square waves are not from me. That's classic overtone analysis. How many pure sine waves do you need to add and when to make a square wave. Timing matters, too. Somewhere there's an actual graphic of all the sines adding up. That's why when you do energetic tone controls, you can get unpredictab...

Re: Bit-for-bit exporting of AIFFs

Have you actually listened to a natural WAV export with dither and everything normal? It's lovely to practice obsession and all, but you're going to go way around the barn to solve a problem nobody can hear. For one example, MP3 causes significant sound distortion but they're really clever about hid...

I am also trying to append those beginnings and endings to the tracks on which they actually belong. I would call that actual content modification. promote something other than Audacity We're not squeamish about that. I just don't know of one. the conversion to floating-point and back is lossless. ...

Toy Clicker It's fashionable to set up for Punch and Roll and try to perform a correcting edit right then. I'm not in that camp. It takes you right out of the story. You need to flip from Performer to Editor and then back to Performer again. Then: "OK, now where was I." I think making a v...

Re: Help with post production effects? - example attached.

post production effects... It's a New User mistake to naturally assume you need to apply a long list of effects, filters, and corrections to make everything OK. If you have a reasonable microphone in a quiet, echo-free room, you can announce in good story-telling style and master your work for publ...
