Re: Need Some Really Good Speakers
With that kind of budget, I would be buying a pair of Sennheiser Headsets like the HD-202 or similar and plug them directly into the Line Out of my sound card. You can do remarkably well with that and it will blow $100 speaker systems out of the water. When I'm on vacation I do casual mixing with my...

Re: Basic Microphone info
The Mic-In on PC sound cards is widely considered to be pretty awful, but it's not that awful. You may just have a poor connection. Get some Windex® and a paper towel and scrub the male plug on the microphone with a damp towel. Dry it with another. Plug and unplug it a couple of times and then do it...

Re: phantom power
<<<shure sm 86 condensor >>> That appears to be a very nice microphone, although it has almost the same curves as an SM-58 and I'll bet the SM-58 is a lot harder to break. Anyway, your microphone takes phantom power from the MicPre--either 12v or 48v. There should be no output at all if the phantom ...

Re: STREAMING AUDIO PROBLEMS
I personally think the software that came with your fancy-pants sound service killed off "Stereo Mix or "What You Hear." That service is still there, but it's hidden in the advanced panels of Windows Setup--unless the panels aren't there any more because your software drivers stepped ...

Re: how to shut off output microphone?
Windows has been trying to hide and turn off the ability to do this because it causes enormous problems. It used to be known as "What You Hear," and it allows you to record the speaker output of the computer--whatever is on it. It's still there, although it's getting harder and harder to f...

Re: Audacity error 13
Did you, by any chance, try to put punctuation marks in a filename? Stop that. Dash and underscore are the only two punctuation marks universally accepted. If you really want to be rabid, don't use spaces, either. Music Collection January/February.wav Mac OS-X turns that into February.wav music file...

<<<Has anyone else had these problems? >>> Everybody's had these troubles. Since you're on a Mac, you can stop using USB and go analog--assuming your turntable supports it, and most do. USB Turntable--Symptoms http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=4567#p17745 Koz

Re: Generation Loss in AUP to WAV to Aup to Wav?
<<<But doesn't 16-bit cover the entire dynamic range of LP, cassette, and CD>>> Perfectly true...a long as you don't do effects. OK, lets apply a vigorous compressor to the show, noise extraction, and then normalize to -1dB. Suddenly, that 96dB noise floor, which was actually 84 if you were using vi...

<<<Could you enable Clean Speech in 1.3.6 release or 1.3.7 Nightly Build (on the Interface tab of Preferences at the bottom), take a noise profile, exit, restart and make sure Audacity already indicates it has the noise profile (OK button active).
