Re: Just upgraded: 1.2 -> 1.3 Beta... Nice!

You can install both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same time. Just don't try to open both at once.

Re: MP3 Quality

We're going with the WAV capture file sounds pretty much like the record and the quality turns to trash at the MP3 stage.

Or maybe not. Which computer and which Audacity?

Re: Cleaning Up A Cassette Rip. HELP.

One at a time..... Get good strong coffee. I can put you to sleep in no time flat. The sample posted (perfectly) has three problems. The obvious one is the hiss typical of the oxide layer of a tape that just isn't moving that fast. We can probably deal with that--or at least suppress it. Much more o...

Re: FFT Size. Global?

I am talking about the settings in Preferences, now, not the ones in the actual analyze tool.

Re: FFT Size. Global?

<<<I think it just changes the display>>> I'm hoping not. I'm hoping that some programmer programmed one FFT module and changing the settings affects all the tools that use FFT--most of them, I'm guessing. Cool Edit /Audition lets you change the characteristics of the profile capture. Koz

FFT Size. Global?

Audacity 1.3.5 under Intel Mac, OS-X 10.4.11

Does the FFT size setting in...

Audacity > Audacity Preferences > Spectrograms > FFT Size

...affect the quality of the noise profile? Does anything?

Re: How could i clean up my voice to sound like....

<<<how do i make my voice sound like a guitar using the vocoder tool?>>> The Geico/Peter Frampton effect? Yeah, that's how they did that one. Unfortunately, Audacity doesn't do anything in real time, so even if you do have the plugin, you need to record both tracks (as above, the "carrier,"...

Re: Can the High-Pass Filter damage your hearing?

Generally no. I think audiometers for safety considerations use the "A Weight" which is far from flat and drops off at both ends. http://www.grozier.com/MetricdbAdbC.shtml Note that the A curve is already 3dB down at 8 KHz. However, high power at high frequencies can have psychological eff...

Re: Cleaning Up A Cassette Rip. HELP.

<<<Seems to be version 1.2.6.>>> On a Windows XP PC? Cassette is hard. Most of the noise is "pink nose" hiss and that's really hard to get rid of. You can't send any of it on the forum, but can you post a little bit somewhere else and point to it? Pick a piece with a silent lead-in and the...

Re: buying a headset

I wonder if I shouldn't try it again with a second pair.

I brought two home. A one muff and a two.
