Re: Playback
Wait. This does ring a bell. There's something about the way Vista manages its sound devices. It's not straightforward, either. We've had people with this problem plug in a microphone and have the sound services start working. Vista doesn't just provide sound services and have a happy day. Services ...

Don't change the original posting when you discover something new. Post an additional message, so we have a "paper trail" instead of scrambled question and answer.

Re: Can't export (create a .wav or .aiff document)
In Audacity, there is a very significant difference between Export and Save, but they should not be gray. Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities > Select your system drive > Repair Permissions. Restart Audacity. If that doesn't work, trash the Audacity folder... Users > Etienne > Library > Applic...

Re: 1.3.6 Important recording, very scratchy and illegible.
I got nothin'. Why did you move the microphone? What happens if you move it back? The MP3 file is odd in that it has a 48000 sample rate. Usually only the video people do that. I can think of a bunch of ways to get extreme damage like that, but they would all fail into live headphones. How big is yo...

Re: syncing Tip
You can also put the new clip on a second timeline under the first. Then you have all the fade, dissolve, and earlier/later tools. It will automatically mix down to stereo when you Export.

There doesn't appear to be an MP3 file at that address.

Re: Removing Static
<<<M-Audio Session with Fasttrack USB>>> Close enough. Try changing your USB connection or unplugging and plugging the original one several times. Restart Windows. When was the last time you defragged your PC hard drive? How full is it? Audacity will create damage like this if the hard drive is crow...

Re: Recording with two mics
<<<usb and 3.5mm mics>>> You also need to know that Audacity will only capture from one "thing." You get only one USB microphone even if you plug two in. Others on the forum will confirm that the sound card in the normal PC is pretty terrible, so the point that you take the performance fro...

By my calculations 96000 will let you record 36.9 KHz - 47 KHz. There are radio stations at that frequency. I'm not kidding. You're recording somebody's navigation beacon.
